How to Use The Family Trees

1. Navigating the Trees

After clicking on a descendent's chart, it will take a few seconds to download. Eventually you will see a screen with a number of boxes in it.

To locate an individual quickly, type F on your keyboard. This will display a list of all individuals in the tree.

To view a particular individual's ancestors and descendants, right-click that individual's box and choose "Make Primary Individual". This places the individual's box it in the center of the family tree, with the individual's ancestors to the right of the box and descendants to the left.

To see more information about a particular person, click their box and type D on your keyboard. Or, right click the mouse and choose "details"

To move up and down and left and right through the tree, use the scroll bars.

To return to the center of the tree, press the Home key on your keyboard.

To zoom in and out of the tree, use the + and - keys on your keyboard.

2. Understanding the Tree Information

The oldest member of the tree is given the number 1 as an identification number.  His first-born child is given the number 1.1.  His second-born child is given the number 1.2.  His fifth oldest child would be numbered 1.5.

3. Errors, Omissions and Additions

Guaranteed, you will find errors and omissions in the text and charts.  The family will also be expanding as new generations of Fischer descendants begin their own families.  You can assist this effort by sending  corrections and additions to:

Revisions are made frequently. New data is posted to the webpages three or four times a year. If you sent in a submission you will get an email acknowledging your contribution. Your contribution is entered into the data program. However, you may not see it displayed for a while. I reload entire pages from the main data program only after a few changes have been made or a few months have passed by.

4. Sources

The following is a list of acronyms used for the sources cited.  People who were sources of information are listed by their initials. For now, sources are not included on these webpages you are using. I hope to include them in the future.  If you need to know the source for some information, contact me.

5. Research Anomalies

When conducting research, I often come upon information that is useful, but I wasn't looking for it. Sometimes I discover someone that can be fitted into the family tree. Sometimes it's a name that looks like they should belong in the tree, but I don't know where. Rather than discard them, I keep an ongoing list of such findings. If you can help me place the following people in the tree please contact me.
