3. Garret Odell¹⁰ Vanderbeck (Harmen⁹, Paul⁸ Vanderbeek, Paulus⁷, Paulus J.⁶, Jacob⁵, Paulus⁴, Conrad³, Paulus², Cornelis¹) was born Abt. 1842, and died November 04, 1887 in Brooklyn, NY. He married Sarah J. Dixon January 06, 1861, daughter of John Dixon and Caturah. She was born Abt. 1846.

Notes for Garret Odell Vanderbeck:
Found information on family from 1870 US census. Living in Brooklyn.

Was a veteran of the civil war. Served with the 79th infantry, Company E. He enlisted in May of 1861. The record shows him to be 28 years old. He was actually 18. He mustered out in 1864. His pension record shows a Silas Dutcher for whom he was a guardian.

Buried in Greenwood cemetery in Brooklyn. Lot 18372, section 3.

When he died, there is a listing in 1888 for his wife Sarah in Brooklyn on Hamilton Avenue as his widow.

Located his headstone on March 17, 2002. My son Richard (8 years old) actually found it for me.

I received updated information from Janet Jordan in Mass. she is his great great granddaughter. Silas Dutcher was actually the "guardian" for Margaret Vanderbeck". Margaret was his daughter. Sarah Dixon remarried George W. Harris on September 19, 1889.
