Notes for F
AY ETTA PINAIRE:
Her name:

When Fay Etta was born her name was to have been Fayetta Theodora after her grandfather Theodore. She was however born on Columbus Day and it was decided that her name should be Fayetta Columbia. It is said that when she was young she was a tomboy and would rather be out in the fields etc than doing the girl things. She was nicknamed Ted and was called Ted by her family as a child.

Many years later when the Social Security Act was passed and she applied for a Social Security card it was necessary for her to have a birth certificate. At this time she found that her birth had not been registered at the Corydon court house. It was necessary for her to find someone who could verify her birth date. This person was a cousin Nellie Woodward who was a nurse and had been present at her birth. After filling out the necessary paperwok Fayetta registered her own birth and changed her given name to Fay Etta (two words)

Schooling:

She went to High School at Corydon, Ind. She boarded with a family in Corydon while attending high school. At this time it was considered a waste to send a girl to high school and she and her mother fought to earn her this right.

After graduation from high school she taught school at a township school that stood on the Corydon Ramsey Road until her marriage.
