Wilhelm Friederich Baartz, Sr. (son of Frederic Wilhelm Baartz and Mary Lehman) was born October 25, 1837 in Kleinglethen (Klein Zeithen),Brandenburg, Prussia, Germany, and died March 25, 1914 in Kewanee, Illinois. He married Caroline Wilhelmine Rathnow on March 13, 1868 in Kewanee, Illinois.

...Mr. Bartz was born in Brandenburg, Germany, October 25, 1837, so was 77 yrs. old at the time of his death. He came to Kewanee in 1855 and settled in Wethersfield, where he lived for 2 years, after which he moved to a farm 4 miles northeast of this city and took up his residence there until Dec 31, 1911, when he moved to the city and took up his residence at 613 Pleasant St where he made his home until called by death.
On March 12, 1868, he was united in marriage with Caroline Rathnow who, with three sons and a daughter, as follows, remain: Willaim, Jr., residing on the home place; August at home; Louis, living 3 miles northeast of Kewanee; and Louise, now Mrs. Otto Neubert of this city. The grandchildren (?) and three sisters, Mrs. August Fuerst of Kewanee, Mrs. Ferdinand Kempin of Kewanee and Mrs. Peter Ouart also of Kewanee also survive...
