1. WILLIAM² WOODFORD (GENERAL WILLIAM¹) was born in Rockingham County, VA. He married HANNAH MOSS 1795.

Notes for WILLIAM WOODFORD:
The only son of General William Woodford, was the first of this name to settle in what is now Barbour County. He came from Rockingham County, VA in 1804 with his family and made his home on Fox Grape Creek, near land owned by William Thompson..
He was a soldier in the American Revolutionary War, having served from May to October 1777 and during the months of June and July, 1778.
The following information was extracted from Adelaide Woodford Kelley's application for DAR Membership under the heading "Ancestor's Services".
" In a Volume known as WD 1781, preserved at Library, Richmond, VA. Photostatic copy, from the original manuscript in the War De pt. in which is the payroll Capt. Richard Campbell's Company of the 8th Virginia Battalion
Commanded by Col. Abram Bowman. The name William Woodford appears in this list. He having served as Private in this command for the months May, June, July, August, September and October 1777. For which service, he was entitled to the sum of Six and 2/3 Dollars per month".
In Volume WD 313, William Woodford's name is also found as having served
as Private for the months of June and July 1778 in the Company of Capt. Kirkpatrick $th VA Regiment, Foot, commanded by Col. James Wood."
