"Ceud Mile Failte!" - A Hundred Thousand Welcomes!

This whole geneaology thing is mind-boggling, also rather frustrating, but I shall keep at it!! Here is what I know:

On my mother's side, we have traced our family tree back to Ireland (maternal great-grandfather, Henry Davis. Born: 1809) and Sweden (maternal great-grandfather, Frederick Freestead & maternal great-grandmother Charlotte = grandmother Anna Marie Elizabeth Freestead. Born Aug. 23, 1876). The location was Norrkoping, Sweden.

On my father's side, the roots go back to St. Thomas, Ontario (great-grandfather Thomas Fitzsimons/great-grandmother Mary Jane Rowland = grandfather John Mason Fitzsimons = my father Frank Evelyn Fitzsimons); also, Bradford, Ontario (great grandfather James Coulson/great-grandmother Mary Wood = grandmother Isabel Coulson = my father Frank Evelyn Fitzsimons). Since Fitzsimons is an Irish name (I think!), and the name is linked to County Westmeath in Ireland, there may be some ancestors both living and dead in Ireland. I would like to think this is the case, but I do not have any other information than the above. Dates are circa 1841/42 to 1896 (the year my father was born).

My wife would also like to trace her ancestors. Unfortunately, very little is known about her family other than current members.

We do know that her paternal grandfather came from North Dakota, USA to Saskatchewan, Canada. His name was Andrew (Andreas??)Schwab, born in Russia, 1878 and he was associated with the "Black Sea Germans." His wife's name was Barbara, born in Russia, Dec 4, 1888. No names of towns or cities known for sure, although Kiev has been mentioned as a possibility. I regret that I have no other data to share.

It becomes obvious that this is going to become a daunting task, and I've concluded that I cannot do it alone. Hopefully someone out there will read this and be able to fill in some missing pieces of the puzzles.

We'd be happy to hear from anyone who might be interested, or possibly related to us. More details are available on my side of our family (Fitzsimmons; note the spelling)and whatever information (albeit sketchy) on my wife's side of the family.
