In 1830, Jacob "Phoenix" was living in Island Creek Township, Jefferson Co., OH, and was enumerated on wp 45 on the census for that year. Enumerated on the same page was William Jones, no doubt the father of Jacob's wife, Nancy.

The family remained in Island Creek Township through 1840, and again appeared on the census with their growing family (wp 174)

In 1850, they were living in Warren Township, Tuscarawas Co., OH, and were enumerated immediately after the family of Jacob's younger sister, Hannah, wife of Samuel Carns.
