I'm researching an elusive bunch of ancestors, and I'd appreciate any help I can get! Please contact me if any of the following folks seem familiar!
The Fitzgerald family came to Canada sometime during the 1840s or early 1850s. James Fitzgerald (born approximately 1820 in County Clare Ireland) had 10 children with his wife, Margaret Forbes. All 10 kids were born in Kingston, Ontario between 1853 and 1867. There names were: Martha (b. 1856), Thomas (b. 1853), Martin (b. 1854), James (b. 1855), Mary Ann (b. 1857), William (b. 1859), William John (b. 1861), Isabelle (b. 1864), Margaret (b. 1964) & James (b. 1867). William John eventually moved to Toronto, where he lived out his final days with his wife, Elizabeth Pickett.
The Pickett family settled on Howe Island in 1841, where Michael Pickett had a farm. He had two wives, one of whom is said to have died in the United States. Her name was Bridget and she had at least two children with Michael. Their names were Johanna (b. 1864) and Elizabeth (b. 1866). Elizabeth later married William John Fitzgerald. Michael Pickett's second wife was Mary Ellen Mohan, and she is listed as his wife by the 1881 census. They had several more children, including John, Catherine, Susan, Mary Ellen, Agnes, and Maria. I don't know a thing about Bridget, or how many of the Pickett children were actually hers. If anyone knows anything about any of these people, I'd love to hear from you. I know there are no longer any Pickett's living on Howe Island, but a street sign, "Pickett's Lane" is a reminder of a large family that once called the island home.
I'll willing share my research with anyone interested -- particularly anyone who may share common links.
