| I am researching the descenants of John Fitzsimons & Rose Cloyne, from County Meath, Ireland. Their only "known" son, John (b. abt.1820) arrived in Melbourne, Australia on the 15th January 1841, aboard the ship Ferguson. With him was his wife, Mary Doherty/O'Doherty (b. abt.1821). Mary's parents were Henry Doherty & Ellen Cloyne. After their arrival, they were for some time at the village of Warringal (now Heidelberg) where they owned land. In 1860 they purchased 218 acres at neighbouring Templestowe, the borders of the property (now) being, Fitzsimons Lane, the Yarra River and Porter Street. Here, they took up dairy farming. Today, some of the land is still in Fitzsimons hands, with 5 generations being born there. John & Mary had 10 children, 8 girls and 2 boys. (to be continued) |
