____________________________________________________________

My current search is for the ancestors of John Fletcher, born 1788 in Virginia. From a letter by Perry E. Fletcher, dated 9-27-1946 in Shelbyville, Illinois:

"About 1815-1816 Grandfather John Fletcher migrated from Virginia to Covington, Kentucky near Cincinatti. He married Catherine Davidson in Covington. They moved to Cincinatti and a year or two later they moved to Marion County, Ohio and located in the Beechwoods, living there some two or three years. Then he bought land 4 miles east of Marion. He was the first settler on the Sandusky Plains. He had 9 boys and one daughter. When Grandfather died, he left a farm of 800 acres well stocked with horses, cows, hogs and sheep. I was born in Grandfather's home (August 19, 1864)."

"Of Grandfather's Brothers & sisters we know little except he had a brother Peter, and another who was a father of Lazarus Fletcher who paid visits to Saint Elmo."

"Grandmother Fletcher was a Davidson and had Scotch Irish ancestry. Her folks came from County Kenear (perhaps ??mar) in Northern Ireland. I only know of her having one brother, James and one sister Pattie. Pattie married a Morrill and a daughter Amanda who lived in Indianapolis, Indiana and a son Gardner Morril who was a Methodist Episcopal preacher. James Davidson settled near Hidalgo, Jasper County, Illinois. John and I visited him and perhaps John can tell you more about Uncle Jimmie than I can. One of Uncle Jimmie's (James Davidson's) Grandsons was A.S. Davidson, and lives a couple miles west of town."

"Sister says she will send you information on the Brocklesby Family in the very near future."
