On the Fourteenth of February 1825 William Fleetham & Jane Grabham at St Edmund's the Bishop's Church in the Parish of Sedgefield, County Durham, in the presence of Thomas Fleetham & Ann Smurthwaite were married by Joseph Arrowsmith Curate.

Just two months later, on April the Twenty Fifth their first child William was christened in the same Church.

These were exciting times for the North East, later on September the Twenty Seventh just a few miles to the south the opening of the Stockton to Darlington Railway took place, the world's first public railway. Forty thousand people watched 600 passengers riding on carriages drawn by Stevensons Locomotive Number One, heralding the dawn of the age of the Steam Railway.
