I am researching several families that lived in the southeastern Unites States, particularly North Carolina. The names that I am most interested in are Fleming, Hines, Voliva, Spencer, Roughton, and Twiddy. I am most interested in dates from 1600 to 1920 for these family names.
John Allen Fleming first appeared in the 1880 NC census living with the Joseph Overman family. He was born in April 1858 and married Sarah Overman in 1879. They had several children during this marriage: James William, Mary Jane, Charlie Franklin, Maggie, and Aggie. Sarah died sometime prior to 1895 and John remarried to Pennie A. Godwin in 1896 and had several children during this marriage: Albert Allen, Lillie, Billie, and Pennie. There are no details to date of John Allen Fleming's parents or of his death or disappearance about 1910. I would appreciate any information about this family and would be glad to share what I have.
Joseph and John Voliva were brothers who show up in Tyrrell County, NC in the mid 1700's and into the early 1800's. They can be traced somewhat through some early deeds, census, and wills of Tyrrell County. I welcome any info about the Voliva family of eastern North Carolina.
Sarful Spencer and his wife Mary Elizabeth lived in Hyde County, NC from about 1820 to about 1870. I have found little info about this couple, especially the maiden name of Mary Elizabeth and the parentage of Sarful except that his mother's name was Nancy (from an old will in the Hyde County courthouse). I would appreciate any and all help with this family.
Joel Redding Hines (1845-1912) and Penelope Elizabeth Becton (1855-1900) were married about 1878 and had four children: Daisy, Clarence Becton, John Adolph, and Jim Redding. I am interested in all data about this family.
Any information that relates to these families would be greatly appreciated and I am willing to share the results of my research to date.
