1. JOHN¹ FLOOD was born 1695 in England, and died 1782 in Buckingham Co., VA. He married (1) ______ DAVIS Abt. 1754. She was born in Glouschester Co., VA, and died Bef. 1762 in VA. He married (2) AGNES PAYNE Abt. 1762 in Buckingham Co., VA. She died Abt. 1789.

Notes for JOHN FLOOD:
      The first record we have of John was a land patent in Albemarle Co., VA. For the sum of 30 shillings, he was granted 295 acres of land on March 3rd 1760. Among the lands was the south branches of Hunt's Creek. This became later became part of Buckingham Co. when it was formed in 1762. The nearby church later became the Buckingham Baptist Church, which is still standing and in regular use today. John was an officer of the church from 1771 to 1774, serving as Sexton. A plaque donated by the descendants of his son Henry, is mounted on the wall of the church and states that John and his wife were buried beside the church, with a later addition built over the graves.
      According to tradition, Captain John Flood, upon retiring from the British Navy, moved his family from England, to the State of VA in America. He was born 1694/95 and was 60 years old, before his first child was born. His first wife,_____ Davis, bore at least three sons. Henry born 1755 and John born 1757, were most probably born in Eng. John's wife died by 1762. At the age of 68 he was remarried to Agnes Payne . This union resulted in the following children: Moses, Joshua A., Joseph,William and Mary (twins) and lastly Benjamin.
      Personal property and land tax list from 1782 showed John owned three horses, six cattle and 200 acres of land referred to as Flood's tract.
