Notes for Anthony H. Hoeckelman:
Per Grace Caroline Fogarty Kothe's notes:
"Anthony Hoeckelmann was born on his parents farm, the Old Watson Place. He dropped the second 'n'. He lived there from 1889 to 1902 then his family moved to the Stevenson farm and he was there until 1914. He was a farmer most of his life except for a time that he worked in St. Louis, MO at the Polar Wave Ice and Coal Company. He was known as Tony. Hilda Ruebling became a Catholic when they married. She was raised at her parents home at Dardenne MO. They settled on a rented farm at St. Paul and when his father returned from farming Tony and Hilda moved to the Stevenson Farm. Their only son Arnold was born August 8, 1919. Out of 30 grandchildren Arnlod was the only one born on the old George Stevenson Farm of our Grandfather John Ernexst Hoeckelmann and wife Caroline Mary Amptmann. They lived on this farm until the Gov. took nearly all of the farm for the T.N.T. plant built in 1941. There was only 38 acres left and it belongs to Anthony and Rose Kothe inherited from Uncle Frank, jointly in 1970. In Aril 1938 the house all belongings burned in the night.
Tony and Hilda purchased a home from Mrs. J.C. Brown in Wentzville, MO. and mvoed there in Feb 1941. Tony worked for a short time for Melvin Mortiz and Tony Schemmer at the Texaco station. He injured his toe and was off work for a while before he could return, Hilda became ill, entered the hospital in March and had surgery for cancer, from which she never recovered. She passed away 2 July 1944. Arnold was stationed in England during WWII and could not return home for her funeral. Tony remained in the home alone, renting part of it out, until his son returned from service in 1945. Arnold and Edna married in 1946 and set up houe-keeping in the family home. Anthony lost some toes due to diabetes. Anthony lived here in the house till his death".
