The known Foht history thus far includes my direct lineage for five generations back to Germany and Ireland and the Engel lineage for five generations back to Alsace/Lorraine, France and Ireland. The Foht origin from Germany has been listed by GGgrandfather Foht only as Muhlhausen, Prussia. Further research has revealed that the Kries (County) was Muhlhausen and that the towns of origin were Faulungen for Grandfather and Struth for Grandmother. The region is known as The Eichsfeld. Emmigration from all lines occurred between 1840 & 1850 to S.W. Wisconsin and N.W. Illinois. There was at one time thought to exist Distant Relatives that came from what is now Poland and the Soviet Union. These Fohts all originated in the kindom of Prussia and are all of the same blood line. The decendents of these Fohts settled in Pennsylvania, Canada, Ohio, Minnesota and New York. After years of research, I have found that they are not related at all because the original spelling of our surname was Vogt and changed by persons unknown to Foht upon arrival in this country. All input from fellow researchers is welcome. |
