Hello...my name is Betty and I am researching both mother and fathers geneology. My mother was a Merrifield, her mother was a Greene. Grandma Greene's parents were John Miles Greene and Margaret Elizabeth Piper. John's parents were Thomas B. Green and Sarah Elizabeth Gibson. Thomas B.Greene was the son of Thomas Bass Greene of Upson County, Georgia. He was son of a James W. Greene of Virginia. The Greenes were from Georgia and then Alabama, then to North Texas. Margaret Piper was dau. of Humphrey Marshall and Margaret Matilda McCracken Piper. (whew!)They were from Tennesee and possibly NC. One of Margaret's sisters was named Sarah Tennessee Piper.
My father Walter Carter was son of Jeff Davis and Martha Elizabeth Ray Carter. Jeff Davis was son of Green Berry Carter
and Nancy Ann Crews. Green Berry Carter was son of Jesse and Lucy Stokes Carter. Jesse lists NC as Birthplace. Lucy born in Va.? Jesse would be on the 1790 NC census. There are about 6-7 Jesse's, can't link up mine. Jesse's 2nd son named Robert Stokes Carter, and his obit says he moved from Randolph Co. NC when he was 4 yrs old. He was born in 1824. Jesse and Lucy moved to Bolivar...Hardeman Co....TN. and Jesse died about 1837 and is buried there in the Crisp Cemetery in Bolivar, TN. They owned and operated a Cotton Gin until about the turn of the century on Carter's Branch (creek). Would like to link up with the Greene's in Georgia or Alabama and the Pipers of Tennessee, and the RIGHT Jesse Carter of NC. Not asking too much I hope???? My Merrifield side is pretty much complete, My mother Ann was dau. of Lewis and Maud Greene Merrifield. Lewis was son of Andrew Jackson Merrifield, one of twins, born in Missouri to Hedgeman and Joanna Merrill Merrifield. Hedgeman goes on back to Samuel Merrifield and Mary Elizabeth Overton who arrived in 1747 in Va. from England. would like to correspond with and trade info with anyone who cares to.....Betty
