Life had contained many interesting chapters for Gramma Stempa, from the days she trod alone through the woods from Shiocton to Leopolis to more tyhan a half a century later when she was honored on each anniversary of her birth by children, grandchildren and other relatives. She came to this country at the age of 18 and settled in the vicinty of Shiocton, Outagamie County. A short time later she went to Leopolis on foot and made her home with a brother. During the next few years she lived in Oconto and Brillion. She was married to Thomas Stempa and they purchased a 200-acre plot in the Town of Grant. Later they bought 40 acres in the Town of Seneca and built themselves a log home. They cleared the land and tillied the soil amd Mr Stempa did work on the side as a blacksmith. Nine children were born of which 7 are living, including one son, Joseph, of the town of Herman; Annie, Mrs Joe Paiser, Leopolis; Mary, Mrs A H Kreitzer, Agnes, Mrs Jore Kreitzer and Carrie, Mrs William Theile, Shawano; and Barbara , Mrs Frank Kugel, Wakechion.
