I am researching the names Foott, Hill, Whitaker, and Richards. My parents came to America in 1969 so my family and my roots are still in England, and almost all the information I have acquired pertains to English branches of these families. I am especially interested in three things: first, I have gotten the Foott side back to a Malachi Foott, born in London in 1747. I would love to go further back, or to see how the name Benwell, which first appeared in 1801, fits into the picture. Second, the Hills. My maternal grandmother was the daughter of a William Hill (she was also the sister of the famous English bookie by the same name). Her father, who was born in 1871, was supposedly the illegitimate son of an aristocrat, but I have never figured out who. I wonder if this could be related to the Irish Hill family. I would love to figure out the connection. Third, my paternal grandmother and her sister have always contended that the brothers John and Michael Whitaker are the children of their first cousins, a theory which I would love to verify. If anyone has any ideas, I would love to hear them. I would be more than happy to share any information I have gathered, too, if anyone is interested.
