| I am trying to find information on my great grandfather, William M. Sponagle. Here is what I know about him: Born: December 30, 1883 in Letart, West Virginia (no record of birth certificate found) Died: February 10, 1955 in Columbus, Ohio Burial: in Galena, Ohio Married: Roxie Ann Graham, daughter of Perry Graham and Cynthia Anna Canter. Roxie was b. Dec. 27, 1885, d.Sept. 28, 1926 Residence: He lived in Letart, Mason County, WV, Pomeroy, Meigs County, OH, and Columbus, OH. The 1900 U. S. Census, pg. 107, West Virginia, Mason County, Cooper District, lists "Sponacle, William" born. Dec. 1883, age 16; the head of the household was listed as Eli Oliver. Other residents were Eli's wife, Matilda, their children - Mandy, Eva, Wilbur, Adellah and Howard - and Jacob Sponacle, age 81. (This is the earliest reference I find for William) Children of William and Roxie are Beulah Carrie, Austin Edwin, Elsie, William Lester, John Herman (later adopted by the Frecker family), and Anna Margaret. William M. Sponagle married Roxie Graham, June 15, 1904, in Jackson County, West Virginia, at the home of Perry Graham (Roxie's father) Occupation: Railroader Other: After Roxie's death, William married a woman named Viola Russell (widow of George Romine). On their marriage license, he stated his parents were George Sponagle and Mary Harper, but I have been unable to confirm this information. He and Viola divorced and he then married Iva Russell. They had children named Dallas Franklin, Dalla Annie, Dorothy and Alberta. Family Speculation: Was William adopted by the Sponagle family? If you have any information regarding this William M.
