The Fosters & Forsters of Durham & Northumberland
Started about 1960 by asking relations in Pelton Fell, County Durham and progressed to more systematic study after attending a course in Keighley, West Yorkshire in 1989. After acquiring a computer in 1997 was able to utilise Family Tree Maker and job made much easier in January 2007 when I began to use broadband.Hardly any Fosters/Forsters have contacted me but several Tinklers (the maternal side) have enabled me to get back to the year 1700.Thomas Forster, born in Sinderhope near Allendale, Northumberland, in 1813 had parents John & Ann. He married Eleanor White of Hartburn in 1841 in Newcastle upon Tyne and later lived in other parts of Northumberland. My grandfather was born at Benton Grange and was married twice. His second wife, Margaret Chandler, born in Cleator Moor, Cumbria, lived at New Hartley, Northumberland when they got married. They later settled in Pelton Fell, Chester-le-Street, County Durham, my birthplace. On the maternal side, William Tinkler was born in 1700 in Barnard Castle but moved to Stanhope where family still live. My great grandfather, John William moved to Pelton Fell with his second wife Elizabeth Bowman and family in 1880 where my grandfather, Thomas Bowman Tinkler, married Annie Elizabeth Beaumont, born in Great Yarmouth.I have researched all these families and would be pleased to hear from any "new" relations. |
