Notes for Jakie Foster: Obit (Statesville Paper) Jakie Foster, of 235 North Oakwood Drive, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at her home. Miss Foster was born Oct. 22, 1909, in Advance in Davie County, a daughter of the late Hiram Lindsey "Tump" Foster and Sallie Virginia Markland Foster. She attended public schools in Davie County and Draughn Business College in Winston-Salem. In 1930, along with her parents and sister, Anne, she came to Statesville to make her home. She was with the Statesville Daily News as General Advertising manager for 25 years. After that, she was director of advertising in Sherrill Lumber Company for five years. Then she joined her brother as co-owner of Foster Poster Advertising of Statesville. Miss Foster was a member of the First Baptist Church in Statesville for 64 years. While there she was one of the first three Deacons, director of the young people, and director of the adult department and was in the Missionary Circle. She was an Honorary Recruiter for the Army and had served as the past president of Altruisa, Statesville Business and Professional Womans Club, and had been a member of the Statesville Lawn and Gardening Club, Women of the Moose Lodge and AARP. She loved golf, playing bridge, fishing and was well known for her public speaking, giving many programs for Civic and Church groups. Miss Foster was preceded in death by her mother and father; two brothers, Clyde E. Foster and N.C. Foster; and two sisters, Anne Foster and Stella Foster Phelps. |
