Sarah Elmina Tisdale was listed in the 1850 Cleveland County Census as 'Sally', age 5, b. NC. along with brothers, Lafayett, 14, b. NC and Pinkney, 9 mo., b. NC."
According to Charlie Jones (great nephew of Elmina Tisdale, and great grandson of A.P.): "Elmina is shown in the 1860 Cleveland County Census, age 14, with her father, William A. Tisdale and mother, Frances, and with brothers Pinkney, 11 and Lafayette, 22. There are also 3 young blacks, called servants. She was listed in the 1870 census, age 23, with Frances and Lafayette and 2 black servants. William had died and Pinkney (A.P.) was married. Elmina and her two brothers sold the family property in 1873 that their father, William A. had purchased in 1831, after he had moved from Lunnenburg County, Virginia. Pinkney moved to Polk County, Elmina married Dock Liles, and Lafayette vanished."
