Notes for Sarah Lafayette Fuller:
According to family tradition, the parents of Sarah Lafayette Fuller were William Fuller and Elizabeth (maiden name unknown); however, no records have been uncovered to verify this information. The 1870 Baker County (later became Chilton County), AL census (the only census she would have been included in her parents' house due to her birth date of 1862 and marriage date of 1879) lists an eight year old Lafayette Fuller in the house of Middleton F. and Mahalia Fuller. The age is right, but the gender is shown as male. Based on the following other information, I believe this to be our Lafayette and the census enumerator simply noted the sex incorrectly.

The marriage license of Sarah Lafayette Fuller and John Wesley Chambers shows that the ceremony took place in the home of F. Fuller. The 1860 census lists Middleton F. Fuller simply as F. Fuller. One of the witnesses to the marriage of Lafayette and John was his brother George. George Chambers married Martha Fuller, who according to LDS records was born in 1858, making her four years older than Lafayette. The 1870 Middleton Fuller household lists a 12 year old Martha, four years older than the eight year old "male" Lafayette. George and Martha Chambers also had a daughter named Mahalia.

All of this suggests that Lafayette and Martha were sisters, the daughters of Middleton and Mahalia Fuller. After the 1870 census, Middleton Fuller disappears.

One final piece of information is the 1900 Chilton County census for John and Sarah Chambers. Haly Chambers is listed as "mother", age 71. Since John Chambers' mother was Mary Ann Doss, it stands to reason that Haly (aka Mahalia) was actually the mother of Sarah Fuller Chambers. Since the enumerator thought Haly was the mother of the head of household, John Chambers, he assumed her last name to be "Chambers" as well.

The 1910 Chilton County, AL census clearly lists Mahalie Fuller as Mother in Law; age 79, born in AL, her father born in NC and mother born in SC.
