Joseph Bauer arrive in Shelby
County, Iowa in 1876. Catholic Church of St. Boniface. Andreas/Andrew
Bauer was his son.

I was told the ship they arrived on came into: Port of New York
I was told they came from: Schrobenhausen, Germany (north of Munich 1/2
hour). I was in Schrobenhausen several years ago, I have pictures.
Bauer Family lived in West Phalia Iowa, South East corner of South Dakota
and Turtle Lake Wisconsin.

There is a lot of information on this family in Des Moine, Iowa History
Center.

1872, March 1 The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad commissioned
Anton H. Kettler to recruit German Catholics who would
purchase land in the area then known as Sumner Township,
Shelby County, Iowa. It was further stipulated that 50 cents
per acre sold would be placed in a fund to build a church.
The first Settlers in 1872-'73 in Westphalia Township,
Shelby County, Iowa, came from Westphalen, Germany except
