*There were two women who were very elusive when searching records: Mary Ellen Madriaga, who seemed to have vanished from the face ot the earth, and "Nan", the woman who put a voodoo curse on our family. When interviewing our family elders, I was told that "Nan" lived with the Victorianas, and that she was close to Frances and Helen, the children of Leonore Victoriana Laudia. Mary Madriaga did not remain married to Daniel Reyes. I found a Nick and Mary Balina on the 1910 U.S. Census, living on Bourbon Street, with Theodore Victoriana and his wife Ellen (Helen Madrigal) listed as Nick's brother and sister in law. (Mary Ellen and Helen were sisters). Also living with them were Emile and Leonore Laudia with their two oldest children, Sylvester and Frances, as well as Theodore's son Thomas. "Nan" had no children; I have found no record of children for Mary Ellen, either. This leads me to believe that "Nan" and Mary Ellen are the same person. -RLR
