Descendants of Unrelated Craver Families

Generation No. 2

      2. Michael2 Craver (Unrelated Craver1 Families) (Source: Barry A. Green, Sources on this family include Levi Craver's family bible, and "The History of Alexander, Union and Pulaski Counties, ILL," by William H. Perrin, 1883, pg. 96.) was born 3 Aug 1787 in Rowan County, NC, and died 31 Mar 1838 in Jonesboro, Union County, IL. He married Susanna Sowers 19 Feb 1813 in Rowan County, NC. She was born 9 Mar 1794 in Rowan County, NC, and died 21 Oct 1875.

Notes for Michael Craver:
Michael's parents are unknown. He was born and married in Rowan (now Davidson) County and was probably a grandson of Philip Craver, who moved to NC about 1774 from PA.

Michael Craver, age 40-50, is listed in the Union County, IL, 1830 census with a female, age 40-50, five sons and five daughters. On Feb 27, 1836, a land record shows that Michael purchased 12000 acres in IL.

Children of Michael Craver and Susanna Sowers are:
+ 12 i.   Christeana3 Craver, born 13 Apr 1814 in Rowan County, NC; died 23 Aug 1888 in IL.
+ 13 ii.   Levi Craver, born 19 Oct 1817 in Rowan County, NC; died 11 Sep 1865 in Union County, IL.
14 iii.   Mary A. Craver, born 20 Jan 1819; died 18 May 1892 in Union County, IL. She married Daniel D. Cover 28 Jan 1840 in Union County, IL.
15 iv.   John Craver, born 31 May 1821 in Rowan County, NC.
16 v.   James Craver, born Mar 1822 in NC.
  Notes for James Craver:
In the 1860-1870 IL census, James is living with his mother, Susanna, and sister, Melinda. In the 1880 and 1900 censuses, his sister, Melinda, is still living in the household with him, his mother having died in 1875.

In 1900, James is listed with three sisters, Melinda, B. June 1828 in IL; Annie, B. Oct. 1831 in IL; and Alice A., B. Nov. 1855 in CO. Since James' father died in 1838, Alice is probably James' neice instead of his sister, or the dates are incorrect.

In the 1880 census, James is living with his sister, Melinda, and a girl identified as his cousin, Amanda Knupp or Knuff, age 12.

17 vi.   Salloma Craver, born 16 Aug 1824 in Union County, IL. She married John Hess 12 Jul 1844 in Union County, IL.
+ 18 vii.   David Craver, born 9 Sep 1824 in Davidson County, NC; died 24 Feb 1885 in Jonesboro, Union County, IL.
19 viii.   Malinda Craver, born 23 Jun 1828 in Union County, IL.
  Notes for Malinda Craver:
The 1900 IL census shows that Melinda, age 56, born in NC, but her older brother, James was born in IL. This conflicts with other census records. She apparently never married since she was living with her brother through 1900.

The 1870 IL census shows Malinda as age 38, which would mean she was born about 1832, instead of 1828.

+ 20 ix.   Daniel Craver, born 9 Mar 1830 in NC or IL; died 9 Mar 1906.
21 x.   Anna Craver, born 3 Oct 1831 in Union County, IL.
  Notes for Anna Craver:
Anna may have married George Hileman on October 12, 1851, in Union County. She is living with her brother, James in 1900 as Annie Craver, age 69, widowed, sister.

      3. ?2 Craver (Unrelated Craver1 Families) was born Abt. 1798 in NC, and died Bef. 1880. He married Nancy ? (Source: 1870 Meriwether County, GA, census.). She was born Abt. 1798 in NC, and died Aft. 1880.

Notes for ? Craver:
This unknown Craver is identified by the surname of his wife and son. His birthdate is estimated based on the birthdate of his wife.

Child of ? Craver and Nancy ? is:
+ 22 i.   Albert D. "A.D."3 Craver, born Abt. 1824 in NC or GA; died 9 Oct 1884 in Jefferson, TX.

      4. ?2 Craver (Unrelated Craver1 Families) was born Abt. 1800, and died Bef. 1828. He married Sarah Temple Bef. 1823. She was born Abt. 1804, and died 17 Jul 1891 in Davidson County.

Notes for ? Craver:
This unknown Craver is identified by the surnames of his children, who carried his name. His birthdate is estimated based on the age of his wife and children.

Children of ? Craver and Sarah Temple are:
+ 23 i.   Isaiah Temple Craver3 Lanier, born Abt. 1824; died Aug 1856 in Davie County, NC.
+ 24 ii.   Elizabeth "Betsy" Temple Craver, born 14 Mar 1826; died 3 Feb 1925 in Davidson County, NC.

      5. Joseph2 Craver (Unrelated Craver1 Families) was born Abt. 1812 in NC (Source: 1880 Forsyth County, NC, census, shows that Rosina Rominger's parents were both born in NC.), and died Bef. 1870. He married Sally "Sarah" Disher 19 Nov 1834 in Davidson County, NC. She was born Abt. 1816 in NC (Source: Forsyth County 1850 census), and died Aft. 1870 (Source: 1870 Census Forsyth County, NC.).

Notes for Joseph Craver:
This may be the same Joseph died in 1862 and is buried at Friedburg Moravian Church Cemetery, Davidson County, NC. The 1850 census indicates he had two siblings, Jessie and Sally.

Notes for Sally "Sarah" Disher:
According to the 1870 Forsyth County Census, Sally was living with her daughter, Elizabeth, and son-in-law, George Spach, so it is assumed that Joseph Craver died before 1870.

Children of Joseph Craver and Sally Disher are:
25 i.   ?3 Craver (Source: Obituary of H.H. Craver.), born Bef. 1860; died Bef. 1860.
  Notes for ? Craver:
Henry Harrison Craver's 1921 obituary states that Joseph and Sally had six children, three brothers and three sisters, all of whom were dead except for Joseph F. Craver. This person does not show up on any census records, so it is assumed she died as a child, probably before 1860.

+ 26 ii.   Rosina Craver, born 14 Sep 1835; died Bef. 1900.
+ 27 iii.   Elizabeth Craver, born Abt. 1837; died Bef. 1888.
+ 28 iv.   Henry Harrison Craver, born 4 Jun 1840 in Davidson County, NC; died 3 Jul 1921 in Climax, TX.
+ 29 v.   Allen Craver, born 7 Jun 1843 in NC; died 4 Jan 1885.
+ 30 vi.   Joseph Franklin Craver, born Jun 1851 in NC; died 1926 in Climax, TX.

      7. Mary "Molly"2 Craver (Unrelated Craver1 Families) was born Abt. 1817, and died Bef. 1870. She married Daniel Leonard (Source: Ray Haupt, descendant of Daniel Leonard and Mary Craver.) 18 Sep 1849 in Davidson County, NC. He was born Abt. 1818.

Notes for Mary "Molly" Craver:
According to Leonard family research by Ray Haupt, Mary "Molly" Craver was Daniel's second wife. Since Molly and Daniel married in 1949 and 1850 census records lists a 3 year old child, this seems to make sense.

Daniel and Mary Craver Leonard were living next to George and Mahaley Craver in 1860, according to census. In 1870, Mary is not listed in the household. It looks like Daniel remarried someone named Bettie, age 39 at the time, and they had a small child living in the house along with Daniel and Mary's older children.

Children of Mary Craver and Daniel Leonard are:
  31 i.   Martin3 Leonard, born 21 Aug 1851; died 6 Sep 1925.
32 ii.   Julian Leonard, born Abt. 1854.
33 iii.   Elizabeth Leonard, born Abt. 1856.
+ 34 iv.   Daniel R. "Mack" Leonard, born May 1858; died 1912.
+ 35 v.   Phoebe E. Leonard, born 8 Sep 1858 in Davidson County, NC; died 10 Jun 1940 in Davidson County, NC.

      8. Michael B.2 Craver (Unrelated Craver1 Families) was born 1819 in NC, and died 1907 in Howard County, IN. He married Mary Ann Stewart 16 Dec 1849 in Howard County, IN. She was born 1831 in IN, and died 17 Oct 1912 in Howard County, IN.

Notes for Michael B. Craver:
Michael obituary states that he was born in Salem, NC, and moved to KY and then IN as a young man. He worked as a plasterer and helped build many of the oldest stuctures in Kokomo, IN, where he lived most of his life. Michael was also a veteran of the Spanish-American War, having served as a lieutenant in the Indiana Infantry.

Michael's parents are unknown, but both his obituary and the 1880 census state he was born in NC in the early 1800s. Because Philip Craver and his decendants were the only known Cravers in NC during this time, it can be concluded that Michael was also one of Philip's decendants.

Census records from 1850 and 1860 indicate that Michael was born in KY, but these could have been errors since his obituary indicates he was born in NC and he moved to KY before moving to IN.

+ 37 ii.   Carrie Craver, born Abt. 1855 in IN.

      9. William2 Craver (Unrelated Craver1 Families) was born Abt. 1824 in NC, and died Bef. 1900 in Probably TN. He married Caroline ?. She was born Abt. 1826 in TN.

Notes for William Craver:
In 1850, William and Caroline were living in Hawkins County, TN. According to census records, he was born in NC, about 1824. The 1860 census says he was born in VA in 1824. In 1880, he is listed as William Craven, age 57, born in NC, parents also born in NC. William was a shoemaker. There is no record of him after the 1880 census.

William Craver is also listed in the Muster Roll for Company D, 63rd TN Infantry, organized May 13, 1862. There is a William Craver, D. 6 Jul 1864, buried at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Hamilton County, TN. It is unknown if this is the same William Craver of the TN Infantry.

William and Caroline's grandson, Will Meadey, age 11, was living with them in 1880, according to census. Their daughter, Sarah or Sallie, was living nextdoor with her husband, Silas Medley, in 1870.

Child of William Craver and Caroline ? is:
+ 38 i.   Sarah3 Craver, born Abt. 1846 in TN.
