| My mother, Theresa Franks, and I are researching several sides of our families. I am concentrating on the Franke/Gansmann (my father's father's) side. The Franke side started in Langendorf, Neisse, Silesia, and moved to Illniois in 1881, living first in Belleville and then in Tamms, in the south. In 1906, the family moved to Saskatchewan, Canada, to homestead at the St. Joseph's colony. The Gansmanns came from Biblis, Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, in the mid-1800s and settled in the St. Louis, MO, and Belleville, IL, areas. Larry Wernle and Leroy Kercher have been extremely helpful with these researches. Leroy maintains a Biblis web site (see link below). Also, limited information about the Curries/Kings/Robertsons from Prince Edward Island (my father's mother's side) is published here. My mother is researching the Valery and Hornung sides (her father and mother). Both families immigrated from the Banat area to Saskatchewan, Canada, in the early 1900's to homestead. We know a lot about their lives from that date but not a lot prior to their move to Canada. I am also doing research on my husband's families -- his father's side (Kaslander/Wagenaar & Nyenhuis/Padding) and his mother's (Converse/King & Turrill/Turrell/Terrill/Huff, Hutchison/Backhouse, Anderson/Merritt). Aaffien Joustra-Kaslander in the Netherlands and the Herrick Library in Holland, MI, has been very helpful about the Kaslanders. A huge amount of information about the Turrill family was shared by Francelia Johnson and William Terrill. The Loyalist side of these families has come to light with a lot of help from the Elgin, Kent and Norfolk County records and newly discovered relatives (and fellow searchers) there. I have linked to my trees on Rootsweb to avoid duplication. Currently Rootsweb removes the names of all living individuals so there are a lot more "Living" names than there used to be. Please contact me for more info on these. As always, there are lots of holes which only more time and research will fill. Thanks! |
