  Below is the will of Jean Cherpantier, aka John Sherbondy, the forefather of 
  the Sherbondys in America. It was transcribed by Jeanette Sherbondy from the 
  Westmoreland Co., PA Will Book.
  --
  In the name of God Amen the 15th day of April A.D. 1798 I John Sherbondy of 
  South Huntingdon Township, Westmoreland County and the State of Pennsylvania 
  being very sick and weak in Body but of Perfect mind and memory thanks be 
  given unto God. Calling to mind the Mortality of my Body, and knowing that it 
  is apointed for all men once to die Do Make and Ordain this my last Will and 
  Testament that is to say first and principal of all I give and Recomend my 
  Soul into the hands of God who give it, and my Body I Recomend in to the Earth 
  to be Buired in a Christian like and Decent manner at the Direction of my 
  Executor and Doubting but that I shall Reclaim the same again by the Mighty 
  Power of God! And as touching my worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God 
  to bless me in this life, I give desire and dispose of the same in the 
  following manner and form.
  First, I give and bequeath unto my Son Melichor Sherbondy two hundred pounds 
  lawfull money of Pennsylvania which he hath already received, and fifty four 
  poiunds over and above his child's part, whom I do make and ordain one of my 
  Executor, to this My Last Will and Testament. Likewise, I give and bequeath 
  unto my son George Sherbondy the sum of two hundred pounds out of which he 
  hath already received the sum of one hundred and twenty four pounds whom I 
  likewise Make and ordain my Executor of this my Last will.
  Likewise, I give and bequeath unto my son Philip Sherbondy the sum of two 
  hundred pounds lawfull money as aforesaid, out of which he hath received 
  eighty-two pounds.
  Likewise, I give and bequeath unto my son John Sherbondy the sum of two 
  hundred pounds like money aforesaid.
  Likewise, I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Catharine Sherbondy the sum of 
  two hundred pounds lawfull money as above mentioned.
  and whereas I expect to remain with my son George Sherbondy I give him over 
  and above his child's part as above mentioned my block and twenty-five pounds 
  in money for which he shall maintain me during my natural life what there may 
  yet remain,
  and whatsoever there shall remain of my property in my posession over and 
  above what is heretofore mentioned in this my will my Heirs as above mentioned 
  shall distribute the same equal among themselves after my decease.
  And I do hereby utterly dissalow, revoke and disanull all and every other form 
  or testament Wills and Legacies bequeath and Executor by me in any ways before 
  this time named willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no 
  other to be my last will and testament in witness whereof I have hereunto set 
  my hand and seal the day and year first above written.

Biography of John Sherbondy
        Sherbondy, Sherbonda, Sharbonda, Sherbundy are variations of the
surname Sherbondy that originated with one man, Jean Cherpantier, in
Northampton County, Pennsylvania. During the last half of the eighteenth
century, Jean's name was Anglicized to John Sherbondy. His wife was Maria
Catharina.
        The first documentary evidence of Jean Cherpantier (John Sherbondy)
that I have found is in the records of the German speaking Hamilton Township
Union Church in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, now known as Christ
Hamilton Lutheran Church near Stroudsburg in Monroe County.i  The records of
baptisms, communion, and confirmation by Reformed and Lutheran pastors were
begun in 1768.ii  The 1769 records of the Lutheran pastor John Andrew
Friedrichs include the birth and baptism of Jean Cherpantier's eldest son
Johann Melcher, born on January 11, 1769 and baptized on February 3. His
parents are recorded as "Johann Cherpantier [and] frau Maria Catharina."iii 
The second child, Johann George, was born on November 15th of the same year
and baptized on November 22. His parents are listed as "Jean Cherpantier/Ihr
frau/Maria Catharina."iv  In the same year (1769) Jean's wife, "Maria
Catharina Cherpatierin" took communion on the fourth Sunday of Advent.v  The
church records are the only references that I have found to Jean
Cherpantier's wife, Maria Catharina. She communed several times, in 1769,
1771, 1772, 1774, 1782, and 1784, 1790, and 1791. I cannot say for sure that
she was German even though most of the names in the church records tend to
be German or Germanicized. Jean Cherpantier also appears in those records as
"Johann Cherpantier" and their children's names are recorded in German.
        The origins of Jean Cherpantier are a bit less opaque than those of
Maria Catharina, but not by much. He was apparently French as suggested by
his name and confirmed by family stories that have left several strands
floating around the country. My grandfather, Frank Pearl Sherbondy (Abraham
M., Abraham J., George, John) identified himself as French, especially in
opposition to his wife's family members, who were of German descent. One of
my great aunts referred to him as "that damned Frenchman", according to my
uncle, William Sherbondy. My family's story claimed that he had come from
the Alsace-Lorraine area of France to fight with the Marquis de Lafayette
and then settled in Pennsylvania. Sherbondy was living in Pennsylvania
before Lafayette even arrived, but he may have been from the
Alsace-Lorraine. According to the IGI, the surname of Cherpantier is
frequent in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department of France, in the same area
of eastern France.
        The most detailed family story was related to me by Danell Aukerman
(aukerman@peak.org) "from the records of [the] Joseph Williamson Sherbondy
and George Wallace Sherbondy Family: John Sherbondy was born in a tiny
village of Sherbondyville, France, about 1735.  He became a political
prisoner in the Bastille on the Bay of Biscay where the only escape was
water. He jumped into the bay, was picked up by a colonist ship, and taken
to America (Fort Dearborn). In the 1760's John married an English girl and
then joined Washington's revolutionary war forces in 1778. He met George
Washington at the Delaware Crossing."vi  1735 is a reasonable date for his
birth and a birth place in Alsace-Lorraine might help explain his settling
into a German-speaking community in Pennsylvania; but I have  not found any
documentation to confirm this story. He was never recorded as a communicant
of the Hamilton church but he was a baptismal sponsor on July 14, 1771 for
"Johannes," the son of James and Maria Logan indicating that he probably was
a French Protestant.  If he had been imprisoned in France it might have been
for being Protestant.
        John Sherbondy did join the Revolutionary forces. On January 16,
1778 he took the oath of allegiance in Northampton County and on May 14,
1778 he enlisted in the Pennsylvania militia, 8th class, first company,
fourth battalion.vii
        By this time Sherbondy was a landowner, a millwright, and a farmer.
On May 18, 1771 he bought land on McMichael's Creek in Hamilton Township
from Michael Link.viii  In 1775 Sherbondy sold this land (125 acres) to John
Huey.ix  In 1776 he appeared as "Hons Scherbander" on the tax lists for
Chestnut Hill Township, just west of Hamilton Township.x  On the 1779 tax
list for Chestnut Hill Township, he appears as "Schranbandy", owner of 300
acres. In the 1782 tax list for the same township he is listed as "John
Sherbonty, farmer" owner of two mills, two horses, and two cows.  He is also
on the tax lists for the same township for 1785, 1786, 1788, and 1790. In
the latter he is recorded as "John Sharbrandy."  He appears as "John
Shiravante" in the 1790 federal census for Chestnut Hill Township.xi
        On May 23, 1792, "John Sherbantie commonly called Jan Sherbantie of
Chestnut Hill township for 250 pounds" bought 336 1/4 acres of land in
Chestnut Hill Township from Frederick Marshall for 250 pounds.xii  The deed
says he was a miller. His grist mill on Head's Creek is marked on a 1792 map
of Pennsylvania as "Sherpants".xiii  In 1796 he sold this Chestnut Hill land
to William Shepherd for 1700 pounds, a good profit. The land included a
grist and a saw mill.xiv  Shortly thereafter he left Northampton County to
live on the western frontier in Westmoreland County where his eldest sons
had purchased lands in 1794 and 1795.xv
By April 15, 1798 he was ill and wrote his will. At the time he was living
with his son George in South Huntington Township, Westmoreland County. After
he died, his will was proved on December 28, 1798, in which he left legacies
to six of his children.xvi  His wife was not mentioned in his will and had
probably preceded him in death. Their daughter Christina was not mentioned
in his will either, nor was she included in his household in the 1790
census. She may have been deceased.
        John and Maria Catharina Sherbondy had the following children:

        In his will, John Sherbondy bequeathed to his son Melichor Sherbondy
200 pounds, which he had already received and in addition 54 more pounds
"over and above his child's part" and he made him one of his executors. His
son George also was named executor and he too was bequeathed 200 pounds, out
of which he had already received 124 pounds. To his son Philip he left 200
pounds as well, out of which he had already received 82 pounds. He also gave
200 pounds to each of his sons John and Jacob and to his daughter Catherine.
He stated that he expected to remain with his son George and so in addition
to his child's part he gave him his clock and 25 pounds in money to maintain
him for the rest of his life. The rest of his property was to be distributed
equally to his heirs after his death. Jacob Richards and Nicolas Swope
witnessed his will.

"John Sharbondy to John Huey.
   To all People to whom these pressents shall come Know Ye that I John 
Sharpeinter also Sharbondy of Chestnut Hill Township in Northampton County 
and Province of Pennsylvania Millwright for and in consideration of the 
Sum of Sixty Pounds lawful money of Pennsylvania to me in hand well and 
truly paid by John Huey of Hamilton Township in the said County Yeoman at 
and before the Sealing and Delivery herof the Receipt whereof is hereby 
Acknowledged have granted bargained sold assigned transferred and Set over 
and by these presents for me and my Heirs do grant bargain sell assign 
transferr set over and confirm unto the said John Huey and to his Heirs 
and Assigns All my Right Title Interest and Estate of in and to A certain 
Plantation Messuage and Tract of Land situate in Hamilton Township 
aforesaid near or upon McMichael's Creek adjoining Thomas Aston and John 
Shaefer Containing One Hundred and twenty five Acres or/ thereabouts be 
the same more or less Together with the Appurtenances (which said Tract of 
Land was Surveyed to Michael Link in pursuance of an Application entered 
into the Land Office at Philadelphia the fifth day of November 1765

payment of the Consideration Money Interest and Quitrent due and to become 
due to the Proprietaries for the same And I the said John Sharpeinter also 
Sharbondy for me my Heirs Executors and Administrators do covenent promise

these presents the said Messuage Plantation and Tract of Land and

the said John Huey his Heirs & Assigns against me and my Heirs and against

Small History of the Sherbondy Family
by Ephraim Sherbondy

In the memorable year of 1812, John Sherbondy and his brother George
Sherbondy, then residents of Westmoreland County in the south western part
of the state of Pennsylvania were drafted to serve for our country in the
war declared against Great Britain. After short service, possibly for some
valorous deed or for his military ability, John was appointed Captain of a
small company whose beat lay along Lake Erie, between the points now
designated as Erie, Pa and Sandusky, O.  At the close of the war, Capt John
was detailed to guard prisoners to Marietta to exchange them, and thus
traversing what is now known to us as "Sherbondy Hill", took a fancy to the
lay of the surrounding country, ascertained the price of land, and in 1816,
in company with his father, Milcha, purchased a tract of land, comprising
368 acres. The spring following they packed their household goods and other
belongings in a large Pennsylvania wagon and started from West Moreland to
Ohio. The moving party was composed of John Sherbondy, Roseann his wife,
and three children, Ephraim, Uriah, and Levi and George Sherbondy, his
second wife Hettie (his having been married just prior to leaving Pa.) and
his one child David. With them came a colored boy about 19 years of age,
who drove and cared for our team the entire distance. The trip was a
lengthy, tedious one, not taken with great rapidity as persons travel
nowdays, it having taken two days to travel from Canton, to Perkins Farm, a
distance of twenty miles.

The first morning after arriving here the party drove to the spring where
the old house of George Sherbondy now stands; the goods were unloaded on
the ground; a dam was built across the Cuyahoga River at Middlebury, now
East Akron, where they hewed, sawed and purchased  lumber with which to
build a shanty to live in, posts about six feet high were driven into the
ground and sided up; maple trees were cut and the bark peeled off with
which to make a roof; lumber was made into tables and benches and this is a
slight description of the place the two families resided in until late in
the summer, when the neighbors of this Summit and Coventry Townships
erected a log house into which they moved, remaining there through the
winter. In the  spring of 1818, the tract of land was divided, and John
built a house on his portion, the west end of it. The second fall, the
families moved here, Mechia Sherbondy their father and Squire Tarrh, Hetty
Sherbondy's father, came here. The spring of 1819 found George returning to
Pennsylvania for his sheep and colt.

About two years after the foregoing events, a cousin of John and George,
David Sherbondy by name, came here and paid them a visit. After that, very
little news was had from the east until about the year 1830, the time boats
commenced running from Akron to Cleveland. Then a cousin came and wanted
John to go to Pa. and move Melchia Sherbondy the father and Peter Sherbondy
and Robert Richie here. He went taking with him three teams and removed the
families here, into two vacant houses on the farm of George Sherbondy. A
nice new log house wasbuilt on George's land for Melchia Sherbondy, where
he resided until the death of his wife, Mary, in 1846, after which he lived
with George until the time of his decease, Dec. 15, 1850 at the age of 83
years, 10 months. John Sherbondy died Nov. 19, 1867 at the age of 76 years,
his wife Roseann having preceded him Aug 19, 1852 at the age of 60 years.
The children of this couple are named as
follows: Ephraim, the eldest, born in 1812, aged 83 years: Uriah Sherbondy:
Levi Sherbondy; Sarah Smith, deceased; Reuben Sherbondy; John Sherbondy;
Ann Bunker, deceased; Homer Sherbondy, residing in the west. George
Sherbondy passed from this earth Oct. 9, 1870, aged 78 years, his wife
having died the previous May at the age of 73. Their children are named as
follows: David Sherbondy, by his first wife; Maryann Callender; Celina
Sherbondy; Hamilton Sherbondy, his second wife's child. Peter Sherbondy
died July 24, 1870, at the age of 73 years; his wife Mary died Aug 13,
1873, aged 59 years. His descendants are as follows: Melchia Sherbondy,
deceased; Ellen Brown, deceased; Wesley Sherbondy, Esther H_____s; Peter
Sherbondy; John Sherbondy, by his first wife; Hiram Sherbondy; Harrison
Sherbondy, Henry Sherbondy, George Sherbondy; Emily Sherbondy by his second
wife.

From “The Akron Beacon and Republican,” Friday Evening, February 7, 1896:
“Mrs. Celina Sherbondy. The death of Mrs. Celina Sherbondy occurred quite suddenly of heart trouble, at 2:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon. She was taken ill Tuesday but her condition was not considered serious until a short time before she died. Mrs. Sherbondy was aged 72 years. She was brn near Akron and all her long life was spent in this vicinity. Her maiden name was Sherbondy and her husband was the late Melchia Sherbondy whose death occurred some 14 years since. Four children survive her. They are: Mrs. Mary A. Sellers, and Misses Esther, Ella and Mattie Sherbondy. The funeral services will be held from the late home of the deceased, Wooster avenue extension, at 2 p.m. Sunday.”

“Miss Sherbondy Taken By Death At Home in City: Lifelong Resident of Akron Will Be Buried in Glendale Cemetery.
Miss Ella Sherbondy, 75, life long resident of Akron and Summit county and member of the family for which Sherbondy Hill was named, died today at her home at 686 Wooster av., following an illness of five months. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the residence, Rev. W. W. Dieterich, pastor of First M. E. church, of which MIss Sherbondy was a life-long member, officiating. Burial will be in Glendale cemetery. Miss Sherbondy was born on a farm in Portage twp, August, 1854, the daughter of Melchiah and Celina Sherbondy, who were among the earlier residents of the vicinity. She is the last of four daughters. Miss Sherbondy made her home for years with her foster brother, Augustus LaCroix. The only other relatives are her cousins, Mrs. M.B. Shumaker, Mrs. John Latimer, Mrs. D. Erdley, and Walter Hawkins, all of Akron. Miss Sherbondy took an active interest in church affairs. Besides being a member of First M. E. church, she worked in the Sunday school and was a member of the Rosario class, once taught by former Mayor D. C. Rybolt. M. E. Hawk is the present teacher. She also was a member of the New Century club.”

E. church, officiating. Miss Sherbondy was a life-long member of the church. Burial was to be in Glendale cemetery. Miss Sherbondy had lived her entire life in Akron, being the daughter of Melchiah and Celina Sherbondy, early residents of Summit county. Albany Pioneer Passes
Major John L. Sherbondy, a resident of this county since 1854, passed away
at his home southwest of Albany on Thursday, May 31, 1917, at the age of 82
years, 10 months and 16 days, after a protracted illness, during which he
was a constant sufferer. John L. Sherbondy was born in Westmoreland county,
Pa. July 15, 1834. In the fall of 1854 he came to Wisconsin and settled in
Green county, where he resided until his death. He was married December 25,
1859 to Elsie J. Burt. Four children were born to this union. Two of them
are dead, Harrison B. and Shelby L. The two living are J. E. and R. D.
Shortly after coming to Wisconsin he was converted and united with the
Monticello Baptist church and remained a member until his death. Mr.
Sherbondy was a soldier of the civil war, having enlisted in Company G,
49th Wisconsin and served until the close of the war. He wife, who was an
invalid for 28 years and who received his patient and tender care, passed
away January 21, 1916. He leaves to mourn his loss two sons, three
grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. A good man has
gone to his reward. The funeral was held at the Gap church on Saturday
afternoon at 2 o'clock, and in spite of the rainy weather, several of his
old comrades of the civil war and other friends attended to pay a last
tribute to his worth as a citizen and friend, and a large number of his
neighbors and friends around his old home were present to assist in the
last sad rites. The services were conducted in the church by Rev. A. O.
Protsman, and a quartet, composed by Messrs. and Mesdames Harry and John
Atherton of this village, sang appropriate hymns. The floral tributes were
many and beautiful and attest the love held for the departed. After the
services in the church the Grand Army conducted brief services at the grave
and the body was laid to rest.

Obituary
Died, at her home, four miles southwest of Albany, Friday, January 21st,
1916, Mrs. Elsie J. Sherbondy, the beloved wife of John L. Sherbondy, aged
78 years, 8 months and 9 days.
Sorrow is God's school in which the soul learns these lessons which makes
it strong and sweet. God's hand is oft-times laid upon us to bring out the
best that is within us. Every sorrow is a message of love to bring us to
Him who is the source of comfort. The rainbow of divine love always
beautifies the clouds that gather about and darkens the lives of all men.
The heaviest sorrow that can enter the life of man is made radiant with
hope, for is there not a promise of a future in which husband and wife
shall again be united and-in which earth's motherless children shall again
find a mother.
Elsie J. Burt was born in Trumble (Trumbull) County, Ohio, May 12, 1837.
When quite young she came west with her parents, who settled in Wisconsin.
She was united in marriage to John L. Sherbondy, on a day that the world
was celebrating the birth of our Lord, Dec. 25, 1859. To this union there
were born four children, Harry B., Shelby L., John C., and Ross D. Harry
and Shelby had preseeded (preceded) their mother to the great beyond.
Early in life, when about 20 years of age, she heard the Master's call,
which she obeyed, accepting Him as her savior and united with the
Monticello Prairie Baptist church. It was a sad blow to Mrs. Sherbondy,
when she, because of illness, was obliged to forego the privilege of going
to church.
We, who are enjoying health and strength and the privilege of daily being
about our work, can hardly appreciate what it must have meant for Mrs.
Sherbondy with all of her ambition, to be an invalid for more than
twenty-five years. These years of dependence however, were made easier by
the kindly ministration of husband and sons. Every thing that could be done
to make life easier and more bearable was done.
Mrs. Sherbondy leaves to mourn her departure a husband, two sons, John C.
and Ross D., one grandson, Rollin E., three sisters, Lucinda Stephenson of
Albany, Phoebe Bouton of Webster City, Iowa, and Almira Dodge of Brodhead,
the members of the Baptist church and a host of friends. The family have
the sincere sympathy in this hour of their bereavement, of the who
community. Yet let us not forget that our loss is her gain for it is better
to depart and be with Christ in his eternal home, than to remain in the
world of sin and sickness and strife.
Funeral services were held at the Gap church, Sunday afternoon at 2
o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. Johnson, the pastor of the church, a large
number of friends attended. The remains were taken to the Gap church
cemetery for interment.

Lucien David Momyer, 83, of Smithton RD#1, died Thursday, March 14, 1985, in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born Sept 24, 1901, in South Huntingdon Twp., a son of the late George and Orpha Rhodes Momyer.
Prior to his retirement, he was a farmer in South Huntingdon Twp. He was a member of Hope Memorial Lutheran Church of Smithton.

    ANDREW G CURTIN SHERBONDY was born October 13, 1863, at Springfield,
Fayette county, Penna.  He was educated in the public schools of Dawson,
Penna.  In 1876 he learned telegraphy and engaged with the B & O Railroad
and was the agent at Dawson and Markleton, and also worked at Uniontown,
Mount Pleasant, Hickman Run, Rockwood and other points.  He remained in
the service of the B & O RR until the spring of 1883 when he removed to
Springfield and engaged in the mercantile pursuit where he has been very
successful in business.  
    He enjoys the distinction of being the only democrat of the name of
Sherbondy.  He is a democrat in every sense of the word and is held in
high esteem by his party, having taken an active part in politics since
he was thirteen years of age.  He was appointed postmaster at Elm
Postoffice, Fayette county, Penna, on July 20, 1885, and resigned on
February 1, 1889, to take effect 1st of last March, while his successor
was not appointed and qualified until May 4, 1889.  He believes in Andrew
Jackson's motto: To the victors belong the spoils.  
He was elected Congressional delegate in 1888 and is at present a member
of the democratic county committee.  
    He was married at Somerset, Penna, by the Rev J F Sharer, Lutheran
minister, on October 21, 1882, to Miss Aggie May Crichfield, daughter of
Henry Crichfield, deceased, late of Springfield, Penna.  This union has
been blessed by two children: Florence Belle Sherbondy, born July 22,
1883; and Ivan Gold Sherbondy, born June 6 1889.
    He is a member of Eylan Tribe No 260, I O of R M, and is a past officer
of his lodge.  
    He is a son of John W Sherbondy and Christiana Lowry Sherbondy, formerly
of Springfield but now of Dawson, Penna.  John W Sherbondy, father, has
been farmer, merchant, and stock dealer and held various offices: ten
years as justice of the peace for Springfield township; ten years justice
of the peace at Dawson, Penna; and he was postmaster at Elm, Penna, under
President Lincoln.
    John W Sherbondy was born August 13, 1822, at or near Mendon,
Westmoreland county, Penna, and came to Fayette county in 1845.
Christiana Lowry is the daughter of Jacob Lowry of Dunbar township, who
died December 8, 1886, aged eighty eight years.  She was born July 18,
1827, at Dunbar, Dunbar township, Fayette county, Penna.
    David Sherbondy was an extensive contractor of public turnpikes in the
early days, having built part of Mt Pleasant and Robston pike road from
Bridgeport up Coal Hill to what is now Allentown Pittsburgh.  He made
several miles of turnpike up the Sciota Bottoms at Portsmouth, Ohio, and
also on National, Claysville, Hillsboro, Frostbburg, Maryland, pikes.  He
paved the streets of Morgantown, West Virginia, and numerous other roads.
    David Sherbondy, the grandfather of the subject of this sketch, was born
in South Huntingdon township, Westmoreland county, Penna, and died May 8,
1880.  The Sherbondys were of German descent and the Lowrys of Scotch
Irish.  
    Mr Sherbondy is one of the hard working and energetic young men of the
county and is deserving of success in whatever he undertakes.

    BENTON L MILLER is one of the leading businessmen of Springfield 
township, and is a son of Jacob A H Miller and Louisa Sherbondy Miller,
and was born in Springfield township, Fayette county, Penna, December 30, 1853.
    His grandfather, Abram H Miller, was born near Meyersdale, Somerset
county, in 1787, and died at ninety two years of age.  He was a farmer and
married a Miss Long.    
    His father Jacob A H Miller was born in Somerset county in 1829, and
died in Springfield township, September 29, 1862.  On February 14, 1853,
he was married by Rev Wakefield to Miss Louisa, daughter of David
Sherbondy.  Mr Miller owned a good farm, was engaged in mercantile
business for some time and also dealt in stock.
    Benton L Miller was educated in the common schools of Springfield
township, and at the Pennsville Normal School when under the supervision
of Prof Axtell.  Leaving school he engaged in teaching, which he continued
for four years, when he engaged in the hotel business.  Retiring from the
hotel, he invested in a store which he successfully operated until May
21, 1884, when his building and stock were destroyed by fire.  After
meeting this loss, Mr Miller engaged in farming and stock raising in
which he has continued up to the present time.
    On December 29, 1880, he was married by the Rev James Hollingshead to
Miss Ina, daughter of Elias Tannehill of Somerset county.  Their union
has been blessed with four children: Bernard Miller, born December 9,
1881; Kate Miller, born October 2, 1883; Lulu Netta Miller, born
September 11, 1885; and Archie L Miller, born August 2, 1887.
    Mr Miller is an ardent worker in the democratic party.  He was a
candidate for the nomination of county treasurer in 1884, and again in
1887.  In each election he ran next to the nominee.  He is a general agent
for farming implements, and is in the front rank of Springfield's
business men.  He is a member of K of P, and also of Eylan Lodge, No 260,
I O R M.  He was the first sachem of his tribe and is now its
representative to the great council.  He is a popular and capable citizen
of his township.
