Notes for Sir Adam De Ireys:
The Irish Family Lineage

The early ancestors of the Irish family are believed to be Norman French - the name originally being D'Ireys. The family moved to Germany, where they apparently dropped the "D" from the name.

About 900 AD, the Irish family moved to England where they established the family seat in Dorset County. At the time of the conquest of England, by William the Conqueror in 1066, the name appeared to have reverted back to its original Norman French spelling.

According to Willis Irish, our family line can be traced to the earliest known ancestor, Sir Adam de Ireys, born about 1070, in England. He accompanied Godfrey de Bouillon to the Holy Land on the First Crusade and had an active part in the taking of Jerusalem in 1099. During the Crusade, he slew a Saracen leader of high rank, severing his head from his body by one blow of his sword. For his service he was knighted and given the right to a Coat of Arms. Sir Adam was a member of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem, which was organized about 1100, to care for the wounded soldiers at Jerusalem.

Child of Sir De Ireys and Joan Stutville is:
+ 2 i.   Hugh2 D'Iryshe, born Abt. 1115 in Dorset, England.
