According to family lore, Rebecca's family left Ireland due to religious persecution. They really weren't affected by the Irish Famine and were considered Aristocracy. Rebecca's grandfather apparently disappeared and all the family found of him were his boots. It was assumed that he was killed by "The Catholics".
