1. RICHARD² WINNINGHAM I (JAMES¹) was born 1758 in Virginia, and died November 13, 1806 in Randolph County, North Carolina. He married UNKNOWN 1774.

Richard Winningham I is listed on the tax list of Randolph County, North Carolina in 1779.

Appointed overseer of the road from Six Forks to County line below Abraham Hammer's Spring Term 1782 Court Randolph Co., North Carolina.

Impaneled on Court Sept. 9, 1788, John Reynolds vs Gossett Randolph Co., Probate Records.

The Federal Census of 1790 for North Carolina shows him living in the Hillsborough District with one white male 16 and upward, two white males under sixteen, six white females and no slaves.

On Jan. 15, 1791 Richard bought from Robert Brown 160 acres of land on Mill Creek, Richard and Robert both of Randolph County, North Carolina at this time.

Surveyor to survey 150 acres of land for Richard Winningham, 11 November 1791, on waters of Mill Creek, in Richard Winningham's old line running North ****to a stake waters of Mill Creek, North Carolina, Randolph County. Book 105 page 159, 14 August 1791.

The 1810 Census for Randolph Co., North Carolina lists Richard and family as 1 male under 10, 1 male between 26-45, 1 female under 10 years, 1 female between 26-45 years.

The Winningham's were one of the first pioneers to settle in Tennessee. They were large landowner and farmers.
