2. ABRAHAM3 WINNINGHAM (RICHARD2, JAMES1) was born Bet. 1780 - 1790 in North Carolina. He married UNKNOWN in Tennessee, daughter of CHIEF NETTLE CARRIER. She was born in Tennessee, and died in Tennessee.

BRAHAM WINNINGHAM:
It is believed that Abraham's first wife was the daughter of Cherokee Indian Chief Nettle Carrier.

Sometime in 1842, Abraham was charged with Forgery. Joseph, Michael & Henry Cravens and James Sampson Winningham posted his $500.00 bond to get him out of jail. Abraham disappeared and never returned. The Cravens and James Winningham were ordered by the court to pay the State of Tennessee with their lands, goods, chattels and tenements.

3. ADAM3 WINNINGHAM (RICHARD2, JAMES1) was born 1781 in Randolph County, North Carolina, and died September 1859 in Overton Co, Tennessee. He married ISABELL 1801. She was born 1789 in Virginia, and died in Overton Co, Tennessee.

DAM WINNINGHAM:
On Nov. 13, 1806 Adam Winningham solt to Thomas Pain both of Randolph County, North Carolina a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the said county of Randolph County, North Carolina, containing 60 acres more or less, this parcel was land belonging to the estate of his father, Richard Winningham, this parcel of land was originally granted to David Jenkins from the Earl of Granville on June 13, 1762, Mr. Jenkins then sold to Robert Hudgins, Mr. Hudgins sold the land to Robert Brown, Mr. Brown then sold land to Richard Winningham and from Richard Winningham to his son Adam Winningham.

On November 18, 1814 Adam Winningham bought 60 acres on Mill Creek waters for thirty pounds from Richard Winningham.

The 1815 Tax List of Randolph County, North Carolina lists Adam Winningham with 200 acres on Mill Creek.

Adam Winningham is listed on the 1810 Randolph Co., North Carolina Census, 2 males under 10 years, 1 male between 26-45 years, 2 females under 10 years, 1 female between 26-45 years.

After 1815 there is no record of Adam Winningham in Randolph County, North Carolina, it is believed he moved his family into Tennessee at this time.

Adam Winningham purchased 233 acres of land from Joshua Wright for $800.00 on Sept. 6, 1816, the land was located on the waters of Obeds River in Overton Co., TN. Adam was a farmer, owning at one time 2000 acres of land in Overton Co., TN., he was a Constable for Overton County during Feb. 1821 and March 1829. He served as a jury member of the Circuit Court in Overton County during Sept. 1818. In August 1820 he was a member of the Overton County Grand Jury. He was involved in a suit against Elijah Garrett in March 1823, Elijah Garrett was found guilty of speaking slanderous words and fined $285.00. Adam was charged with horse stealing by the State of Tennessee but was found not guilty of the charge.

The 1836 Tax List for District Eleven of Overton Co., TN. shows Adam Winningham with 233 acres of land, no slaves and no poll tax. Adam Winningham several Land Grants in the Mountain District of the Cumberland Plateau in Overton County, Tennessee, some of these grants or tracts were purchased by Adam for 12 1/2 cents per acre.

He is listed on the 1850 Overton Co. TN. Census District 11. He is age 69, he is a farmer owning land valued at 1800.00. His wife Isabel is age 68. His children Bethena age 32 and Isabel age 22.

Adam died Sept. 1859 at age 75, he was kicked by a horse he suffered 4 days then died. He is buried at Bethsaida Cemetery.

BEL WINNINGHAM:
Abel Winningham served in the War of 1812, he enlisted in North Carolina he was discharged in April of 1815. On April 28, 1828 he enlisted in Gwinett's Company as a Captain out of Georgia, this company was organized to squell the Indian Disturbance that had started. He was discharged on March 18, 1830.
