ETH WINNINGHAM:
Seth Winningham served in Company D, 2nd Tennessee Infantry and Tinker Dave Beatys Independent Scouts during the Civil War. He enlisted Oct. 24, 1861 and was honorably discharged by the War Department on March 17, 1906 effective March 22, 1862. He applied for pension April 3, 1886, his widow Susie Elizabeth applied Sept. 26, 1916 for a widow's pension. Seth deserted the 2nd Tennessee on March 22, 1862, he had a charge of desertion removed under an Act of Congress approved on March 2, 1899. He was never absent from Beaty's Company once he joined, he supplied his own horse and equipment, Winningham received his $400.00 bounty. In the 1850 Overton Co., TN. Census he is listed with his parents, his age is 8 mos., the Census was dated Sept. 4, 1850, which would mean his birthdate year would have been 1850 not 1846 which is on his tombstone.

He served with Company H 25th Tennessee Infantry for the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. This unit was organized in Aug. 1861 at Camp Zollicoffer in Overton County Tennessee. In November 1863 this unit was consolidated with the 44th Regiment.
