I am looking for information on all branches of my family tree including the last names: COX (OH and MO), HEIGELE (Germany and Freeburg, IL), JACOB (originated in Hannover, Germany as Jakub, possibly vonJakub and MO), KOEPPE (Alsace-Lorraine region of Germany and Marinetown, IL), MARCOUX dit ST. ONGE (Québec, Canada), ARPIN (Québec, Canada), PAUBEL (Suhl, Prussia and MO), PRENTISS(CE) (ME, MA, VT, MO, MS, CA, WA).
I have a history of the COX side of the family dating back to about 1610 ("The Prentice or Prentiss Family -- Taken from "History & Geneology of the Prentice or Prentiss Family, in New England" by Binney dated 1852). I am working backwards and have produced proof through my great great grandmother Abbie Louisa PRENTISS COX. She was married to Thomas Edward COX who was born in Ohio or Iowa in about 1856 -- I'm working on that part.
Any further information on any of the above surnames would be welcomed and appreciated. My PRENTISS family was from DeSoto, Jefferson County, Missouri - I finally found funeral home records for Samuel and son, George, who died at age 18 of "fits". I am also really anxious for some information on my Thomas Edward COX born in Ohio or Iowa in about 1856 (died at age 40 from an abscess). I'm not sure of when he arrived in DeSoto, Missouri, or who his parents were, or if he came to Missouri alone or with his parents, friends or other family.
I would also like to connect with any families in the lines of ARPIN and MARCOUX dit ST. ONGE. They were mostly from the St-Hyacinthe, Shefford and Drummond counties in Québec, Canada. On a trip to Montréal in the fall of 2007, I found the ARPIN connection - my ggg-grandfather's mother was found to be Marie-Angélique ARPIN on his marriage contract to Marie-Josephte BOUVIER. I am still searching for his father's name and how he came to be using the surname of MARCOUX dit ST. ONGE.
- Theodore St. Onge and Kunigunde Meid (36 KB)
These are great-great grandparents on my mother's side. Theodore was born August 14, 1836 in Canada and Kunigunde was born December 14, 1848 in Missouri. Her parents were Adam MEID and Maria C. or K. BERTHOLD...or so we thought - I now believe she was born as Kunigunde WALTER, but no idea who her parents were. First time I find her was in the 1850 census and she is living only with her older brothers - the MEIDs live next door. His parents were Joseph MARCOUX dit ST. ONGE and Helene JOURDAIN dit LAFRANCE.
- Theodoule Marcoux (aka, Theodore St. Onge) & Fam. (81 KB)
This is a family photo that appeared with the obituary for Theodore ST. ONGE who was born in 1836 as Theodule MARCOUX dit ST. ONGE in St-Damase, St-Hyacinthe, Québec, Canada. His wife is Kunigunde MEID, born in Missouri. All but one of his children is pictured here.
- Julius Valentin Paubel (3 KB)
This is the only photo I have of my great-great grandfather, Julius Valentin PAUBEL. He was born on September 1, 1838 in Suhl, Prussia (now Suhl, Thüringen, Germany). He "came to the U.S. in 1847 with his parents and three brothers (no sisters)" according to a statement by him in his Civil War Pension File.
- Emma Lizzie (nee Jaeger/Yeager) Paubel (32 KB)
Emma was Julius Valentin PAUBEL's wife. She was born on May 8, 1850 in Asch-bei-Hof, Germany. She listed her place of birth on 1860 & 1870 census as Austria, but have also been told it could be what is now A, Czech Republic. I found a town called Asch near a town of Hof in both Austria and Czech Republic. Still seeking her parents/siblings.
- Samuel Prentiss (12 KB)
This is my great-great-great grandfather, Samuel PRENTISS, born in Portland, Maine, on April 29, 1811. He married Sarah MANESS in De Soto, Jefferson County, Missouri, June 15, 1854. They had six children. The first-born was supposed to be born in December of 1849 - did he have a previous wife? Did he and Sarah have a child before they married? As usual, more questions than answers!
