SERIOUS SMASH IN IFFLEY ROAD

MOTER-CYCLIST BADLY INJURED

A serious accident, necessitating the amputation of a leg below the knee, occurred on the Iffley road at two o'clock on Saturday.William Willoughby Newton Bernard, of Walmer, Kent, was driving a motor car towards Iffley. When on the point of passing Magdalle road he came into collision with a motor cycle ridden by Gordon Leslie Franklin of 49 Divinity road, who was riding from Magdalen road into the Iffley road. Franklin was thrown heavily to the groung and received injuries to the right leg and skull. He was attended by dr. Russell and conveyed to the Radcliffe Hospital in one of mr. Smartt's motor larries. His injuries were of such a serious nature that it was necessary to amputate the leg below the knee.
