Samuel F. Freeman was born 14 Aug 1870 to John C. Calhoun Freeman and Sarah (Sally) Reece. He was the third of six children born to them.

The following information was written by Beatrice O'Neal and May Ott.

Uncle Sam and Aunt Marcia (McCabe) Freeman had no children. They Practically raised Ardie Freeman. When Ardie was a boy and would start home, Uncle Sam would not want him to leave. He'd say, "I think your Aunt Marcia wants you to bring in some wood," or use some other excuse. Ardie had dreamed of going to their place again. He was really hurt when Aunt Marcia died. She is buried in the Cypert Cemetery. Uncle Sam died in 1929. He is buried in the old Marshall Cemetery by Reece's near the front gate. Ardie was the son of James A. and Arvilla (Woody) Freeman

Samuel was first married 26 Mar 1892 to Elizabeth (Lizzie) Reece in Marshall, Arkansas. She died within a year of their marriage.
