Notes for Ruby Juanita Masoner:
In 1920, Ruby is in Marshall Co., OK where she was living with her mother, Daisy and stepfather Hardy T. Lyons. Ruby was not listed in her father's obituary. I have been told that Charlie's sons did not know about Ruby until his death. Daisy and Charlie were divorced in 1914 in Durant, OK.
In 1936 Royal remembers seeing Charlie in Fox, Oklahoma. Charlie had a son with him who was about 12 years. They weren't in a vehicle.

106. William Roy⁴ Freeman (John David³, John Samuel², Samuel¹) was born 30 May 1909 in Yellville, Marion Co. AR, and died 21 Feb 1998 in Baptist Hospital, Oklahoma City, OK. He married Lois Kimberlin 19 Jan 1930 in Healdton, Carter Co., OK, daughter of Ambers Kimberlin and Fannie Shannon. She was born 12 Aug 1913 in Comanche, Stephens, Co., OK.

Notes for William Roy Freeman:
William was orphaned at the age of seven in the year 1916. His older brothers and sisters raised him. Times couldn't have been any harder for this family. Even food was hard to come by. William had a pet goat that he played with. His older brother, Rome, had to kill and butcher his pet goat for food. William said, "I just couldn't eat it."

His sister Flora had a job at the Layton House, baby-sitting. She would sneak food out to two hungry, younger brothers, William and Lee. Swimming in Crooked Creek was the summer fun.

In 1923, at the age of fourteen, William moved to Wirt, Oklahoma with his sisters Lou, Flora, and Lela. The train fare was paid for by the older brothers Rome, John Albert, and Virgil, who had come to Oklahoma in 1921. His brothers, Acy Neal and Robert Lee were the only ones left in Arkansas. They later went there also when the money became available.

William entered the seventh grade at Dundee School after their arrival in Oklahoma. He completed his eighth year at Dundee, then in 1926, he started working for the Magnolia Petroleum Company. He worked for this company for 45 years and retired.

Upon their arrival in Oklahoma, housing was difficult. They lived in the Humble house north of Dundee. William stayed in the bunk house and boarded with the Harlan Woods family.

William served as company union representative for several years. He also served on the Dundee School Board, led the music in Church, and is a Deacon in the First Baptist Church in Healdton, Oklahoma.

William met Lois Kimberlin when she was in her Junior year in Dundee High School. They were married 19 Jan 1930 in Healdton, Oklahoma by Rev. O. Hamblin.

William enjoyed having cows. They could roam the open range in the oil fields. He had good gardens and a milk cow. In 1957 he constructed a new house, where he lives to this day. He made a good brand of drip gas, straining it through the best of felt hats.

William's older brother, Rome, became blinded by cataracts. William was able to help cover for him on the job by following him on the night shift and taking care of tank fill and paper work. Rome couldn't top a tank, so it just meant go to an empty tank before that one filled to overflow. The boss finally discovered what was happening and Rome was forced to retire.

Early in his career, William fell from a ladder while painting a fifteen foot tank. He fell on his wrist. It was broken very bad. The pain was terrible and his fingers had to be in traction. He later regained super strength in his grip by squeezing a rubber ball.

This family was strong, helped each other, and kept in touch with each other. Their deep faith in God, inherited from their father and mother, is exceptional. They all gained strength of character from their hard times.
