Anderson Wallis was born 9 Oct 1911, in Searcy Co., AR to John Timothy Wallis and Tennie (Freeman) Wallis. He was the 8th of 13 children. Their "Grandpap", James Wiley Wallis, who was born in 1836, & had been a school teacher and Baptist preacher, lived with them. There were also many cousins living nearby. They were a hard-working, close-knit, happy, fun-loving family.

It was hard making a living in the rocky soil of northern Arkansas, and in 1926 they traded their home-place for land in New Mexico. They moved as far as Gracemont, Oklahoma that year. The next few years were spent farming in the Gracemont area and his family had a grocery store in Gracemont for a while.

When his family moved to California a few years later, Anderson worked his way back and forth between there and Gracemont. He hitchhiked, hopped freight trains, or drove when he owned a car. He was usually in the company of a brother or cousin. This was an interesting time of his life and he enjoyed telling tales of his travels during that time.

On February 16, 1939, he married Elsie Lorain Holman in Anadarko, OK. After their marriage, they moved to California where he worked in the orchards for a short time before moving back to Gracemont to farm. Their first daughter, Jerre, was born in 1940 and their only son, James in 1942. Two more daughters were added to the family, Freida, in 1956, and La Rue, in 1958.

Farming was a family venture, where everyone worked side by side. He used that time to instill character and values in his children and grandchildren.

He enjoyed working, and took pride in a job well done, but work was set aside for church. He was a quiet, gentle man with a quick sense of humor who loved and enjoyed his family and friends. He left this world and joined waiting family and friends in Heaven on October 7, 1995.
