Barnett Dowell (b. Abt. 1792, d. October 01, 1835)
Barnett Dowell was born Abt. 1792 in Albemarle Co., Virginia, and died October 01, 1835 in Profit, Albemarle Co., Virginia. He married Nancy Munday on September 28, 1815 in Albemarle Co., Virginia, daughter of Jonathan Munday.
Notes for Barnett Dowell: Barnett Dowell was a farmer and served as a Private in the First Reg. Virginia Military under Capt. J. B. Key and Col. C. Yancey in the War of 1812.
Nancy Munday Dowell filed for a bounty land grant of 80 acres in 1851 as was provided for in a law passed in 1850. As there were no death certificates issued in Va. at the time and no formal records kept of deaths witnesses had to be brought before the court to support Nancy's claim to be Barnett widow. Polly Munday gave oath she had witnessed the marriage of Barnett and Nancy. Also bearing witness were William A. Tinsley, James Smith, Thomas Munday and John W. Gop.
She received this grant in 1855. At the age of 65 some thirty years after Barnett's death.
Barnett died before his father John. So he did not inherit. However he is mentioned in the will of his father and Barnett's children, Alanson, James, and Gillia received their fathers part.
