      1. James1 Drain was born 1780 in Maryland, and died August 05, 1829 in Oblin Co. TN. He married Ruanna Jane Sherrill in Montgomery Co. KY. She was born 1782 in NC, and died 1861 in Washington Co. AR.

War of 1812 Pension Application W.O. # 9038, W.C. # 6420. B.L.W. # 51293-8-50 and # 46920-80-55. He served in Captain S.Williams' Company of Kentucky Militia from 14 Aug 1812 to 14 Feb 1813. Married Roxanna Sherrel in Dec 1800 or 1802. Soldier died 5 Aug 1829 in Obin Co. TN.Mrs Roxanna Drane, (name also spelled Ruanna Drain) applied for VBounty land on 13 Apr 1853, her age 70, and she was a resident of Washington Co AR, (P.O. Maguire's store) She stated that her husband had volunteered into service in Montgomery CO. KY. She stated that she had left Montgomery CO some 25 years ago.

Will on James Drain dated 6/13/1820 leaves land to sons James, David and Robert.

Know all men by those presents that I James Drain of the County of Merion and State of Tennessee, in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have and bear to my beloved sons, James, Drain Junior, David Drain and Robert Drain of the County and State aforesaid I have given and confirmed and by those presents do give, grant and confirm unto the said James, David and Robert all my goods and chattel _________ leases and personal estate whatever,, in whose hands custody, or possession so ever therebe within the State of Tennessee. To have and to hold and enjoy all and singular the Chattels goods and personal estate aforesaid, with all my rights in to preferred right allowed to me of one hundred and sixty acres of land by the act of assembly unto the said James Drain, David Drain and Robert Drain, their executors, administrators and assigns forever, and I the said James Drain senior all and singular the said goods, chattels and personal estate and ether the premises to the said James, David and Robert Drain their executors administrators and assigns against the said James Drain Sen.'s and my executor and administrators and all every other person or persons whichever will and shall _______ and ever defend by these presents of all and singular which said goods, chattels and personal estate and other the premises. I the said James Drain have put the said James, David and Robert Drain in full possession by delivering to them one bay mare and colt one _____horse, one gray horse, nine head of hogs, nine head of cattle three feather beads with my preference right at the time of the sealing and delivery of those presents in the name of the whole promises hereby granted-

!Biography: James Drane was born ca. 1782 in Kentucky or Tennessee. H e was an orphan: "Tennessee Tidbits, 1778-1914, Vol. 1 (Greene County , Tennessee Court Minutes, #271)", "James Drain, bound November 179 2 to Samuel Ellis until age 21 to learn the blacksmith trade. He is a n orphan 10 years of age."

James Drain and Roxanna Sherrel were married before December 1810.

James fought in the War of 1812 under Captain S. Williams Company o f Infantry, 5 Reg't Kentucky Vol. Mil. from August 14, 1812 to Februa ry 1813. He volunteered into service in Montgomery County, Kentucky.

James died August 5, 1829 in Obion County, Tennessee. Roxanne and chi ldren were living in Marion County, Tennessee in 1830.

His widow, Roxanne applied for Bounty Land on April 13, 1853, age 70 , while living in Washington County, Arkansas (P.O. Maguire's Store).

Malory Cemetery is located at Durham in Washington Co. about 3 miles west of the Madison Co Line. Turn off Hwy 16 on county road # 183 by the baptist church and go about 1/4 mile.

There is a large flat slab with no inscription believed to be:
Drain, Ruanna/Roxanna b. ca 1783 d. still living 1872; nee Sherrel; w/o james Drane/drain, md Dec 1800-1802. James served in the war of 1912 in Capt S. Williams' Co of Ky Militia from 14 Aug 1812 to 14 Feb 1813. he d. 5 Aug 1829 in Obion Co TN. Ruanna applied for Bounty land 13 Apr 1853 at age 70 when she was a resident of Washington Co, AR at maguire's Store community. She stated James had volunteered into service in Montogomery Co, KY and she left there after his death. In 1857 she applied for his pension. She stated "I had 2 children to said james Drane before the the close of the war of 1812 and ten afterward to wit: mary; James; Washington; Elizabeth; Robert ; Wesley; John; Rebecca; David; Margaret; Rebecca Junior; And Sarah; Mary is still living and is now the wife of Benjamin Hood" Mary stated " I, Mary Hood, dau of James and Ruanna, of Washington Co AR am 60 yrs old, being born in 1811." Benjamin and Mary Drain hood are listed on the 1850 Wash Co Census, White river TWP #22 Refer to book Arkansas Pensioners 1818-1900, pg 41-42 for Drane, James Pension Application W.O. # 9038, W.C. # 6420; B.L.W. # 51293-80-55.

Note: son George Washington Drane md Elizabeth Robbins in Washington Co AR 8 July 1849. Margaret Drane was 2nd w/o Aaron Robbins. Aaron and Elizabeth (w/o Geo W. Drane) were ch/o Richard and Nancy Richards Robbins. Aaron and Margaret had 4 ch by 1860 before he died. Their daughter Elizabeth Robbins md James J. Watts. The farm where James and Elizabeth lived at Durham is still in the Watts family, where the graves are located.
