      10. John2 Drain (James1) was born 1823 in Marion Co TN, and died November 09, 1847 in Mexico City, Mexico. He married Susan B. Carr July 21, 1840 in Dekalb Co AL. She was born February 28, 1818 in TN, and died October 02, 1915 in Madison Co. AR.

John served in Woods Company C 12th Regiment Inf under Colonel M.T. Bonham in the Mexican War. He enlisted 24 May 1847, and died of disease in Mexico City on 9 Nov 1847. Widow, Susan , applied for pension in Huntsville, madison Co. AR on 28 Jan 1850, stated that she and John Drane were married in DeKalb CO AL on 21 July 1840

      John Drain was born abt 1823 in Marion Co Tennessee, the son of James and Ruanna Sherrell Drain. Ruanna was born in North Carolina about 1781.
      John married Susan B. Car in Dekalb Co AL in 1839. Susan was born 28 February 1818 in Tennessee.
      About 1842, the Drains, including two brothers, Wesley Newton Drain and Geroge Washington Drain, journeyed with Benjamin and Mary Drain Hood to Dade County, Missouri. All moved to Washington County, AR in 1844. The Hoods extablished the town of "Hood" (now Elkins). The Drains lived near the Madison County line, using Wesley, AR as their address. Wesley married Martha Cunnaway. Wesley died in 1856: the Dunnaways helped rear their four children. George married Elizabeth Robbins and had 12 children. Ruanna traveled to ARkansas,, after she was 80 years old, and was living with George's family in 1880. Later George moved to Franklin County.
      24 May 1847, John enlisted as a private in Wood's Company "C", 12th Infantry, under Colonal M. Tl Bonham to fight in Mexico. Physical description was: black hair, grey eyes, red complexion, 5 feet 11 inches in height. John died 9 November 1847 at Mexico City.
      George W. Drain was appointed guardian of John's four children (Benjamin Hood, Bondsman). In 1850, Susan was granted John's estate, consisting of one cow and a calf, $21.00 service pay, and land warrant valued at $100, and regained guardianship of her children. many land transactions registered in Madison Co indicate Susan was a sucessful business woman.
      John and Susan's children were: Sarah Emmaline, James E., Wilis Bertis, and John Wesley. Susan listed as her sons census records, Thomas Woodrow Drain, born 1858 and George Drain, born 1861. Possibly they were sons of her daughter Sarah.
      Susan died 2 Oct 1915 at the home of Thomas Drain (postmaster at Huntsville). Newspaper obituary reported, "All Huntsville stores closed for Aunt Susan's " funeral" and " no man could speak ill of her."
      William Bertis Drain was born 12 May 1843 in Dade Co missouri. "Bill" and his two brothers were accustomed to hard work, farming for their mother. Bill was a private in company C, Shaver's 27th Regiment, Confederate ARK Infantry (1862-1865). Grandchildren were often shown his bullet riddled hat and a bad scar above one ear, mementos of war service. Bill was taken prisoner at New Orleans and paroled at Shreveport 18 june 1865. He walked to Arkansas. His childhood sweetheart, Susan B. Dodd, and he married 13 May 1866. Susan born near Athens Tenneessee, 22 Oct 1844, was the daughter of Asberry and Sa4rah Rutherford Dodd.
      William, a farmer and "orchardist" also operated country stores at Cincinnati, Elm Springs and Maquiretown.
      Susan died 17 Mar 1925. William married Mrs. Mary Young Samuels in Oct 1928. William died 6 March 1931.
      William and Susan had nine children" George, age 9, died of rattlesnake bite: Mary Elizabeth died at age 12: John aged 29 was killed by a train in 1908; Robert married Minni Rowe, Sarah Louise wed Thomas Hudson; William Andrew married Naurma Bookout; Emma, wed Lamuel Johnson' Laura married Claud Wilson and Roy wed Grace Hembree.
      William Andrew Drain, born 8 March 1875, near Combs, married Naurma Bookout 28 Dec. 1901. Naurma born 10 July 1883 was the daughter of John and Amanda Franciso Gear Bookout. Will was a "cooper" a farmer and laborer at veneer mills in Fayetteville. naurma, first a homemaker later worked at the "garmet factory". Her hobbies included embroidery crochet, quilting and tatting. Naurma died 4 Jan 1930. Will died 26 Aug 1950. They reared one son, Cloe Eugene "Tobe" Drain.
      Cloe Eugene Drain, born at Fayetteville, 17 Decemger 1907, married Jewell Maybelle Jordan 14 july 1930. Jewell born 7 jan 1910 was the daughter of Jesse Taylor and Anna May Shearer Jordan.
      "Tobe" was a carpenter for Frisco Railroad Brideg Maintenance. Now retired he makes wooden works cllocks from antique plans and collects and repairs anitque clocks. Jewell was employed at Jerpes Poultry Processing Plant and Vickers Laundry. Now retired she is a homemaker; her hobby is quiltmaking.
      Cloe and Jewell's one daughter is Frances Lee Drain (mrs John R. Dockery).
