Kizzie was born to John T. McLemore and Agnes Smith. Her paternal grandmother (Nancy Vinnie Batiste) was said to have been a Native American. She married in Hazlehurst, Copiah, Mississippi to John Thomas Freeman. They later lived in Franklin County, where they were buried at the town of Hamburg.
