The Freeman family of Taylor county, Florida are descendants from the "John Freeman" family of Norfolk, Virginia, as outline in Merrill Hill Mosher's book, titled
"John Freeman of Norfolk County, Virginia-His descendants in North Carolina and Virginia, and other Colonial North Carolina Freeman familes". Our great thanks goes to Mr. Jack Shotts for providing us with copies of this book to assist us in our research.
Our earliest documented ancestor is Richard Freeman born cica 1800 in Georgia. Y-DNA test results are our link to the Freeman family in Norfolk, Virginia. We are in the process of establishing a paper trail between Richard and John.
To better understand the Y-DNA trail please see the link to the Freeman Family Y-DNA project below.
We have also added family files for other Freeman's from the same Norfolk, Virginia lineage. They are located in other areas of Georgia and Florida, our intent is to help keep the information for this Freeman line in a central location for other Freeman researchers.
The Taylor County, Florida Historical Society has an on going project of publications called "They Were Here". Several of the Freeman's in Taylor county are featured in this series, as well as many familes allied to the Freeman's.
As we work on our Family Tree Maker files we will add information about all the families in this series. Please come back often to see any updated information. If you are researching a family in Taylor county, Florida, please feel free to contact us with any questions or family data you may wish to share.
