| THE BUCKLEY ANCESTRY written by Audrea Florence(Buckley)Frizell as of August 3, 2000 not finished My Great, Great, Great Grandfather was John Buckley who was born on the 29th of May 1769. He was married on the 13th of December 1789 to Elizabeth Pendlebury who was born on 8th of November 1768. My GG Grandfather, Philip BUCKLEY was born on the 22nd of July 1805. He married Sarah nee Morton on the 7th of April 1829. My GG Grandmother Sarah was born on the 11th of October 1810 and died on the 19th of July 1888. They had ten children, Morton Major, Eli Philip, Presila, Barton, Mark Arthur, Julianna, Sarah Ann, Amelia Redfern, John Edwin and Samuel M. Their Eldest son Morton Major BUCKLEYsailed to the New World in 1849 on the ship "The Westpoint". He was staying with his Maternal Grandparents, Samuel and Nancy (Booth) MORTON at Washington and Till Sts. West Philadelphia. They had emigrated in 1829 to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They were running an Inn and Samuel 1780-1850 was the Tavern Owner. Philip died on the 23rd of December 1851 at Radcliffe Hall, Lancashire. His Death Certificate from the Bury Records Office states Cause of death: Phthisis 12 months not certified. Occupation: Doubler of Cotton Yarn. In 1852, after Philips death Sarah packed up the seven children, two children had previously died)and they sailed on the ship "The Wyoming" to Philadelphia. She joined her Mother Nancy MORTON 1793-1872 Morton Major married Elizabeth Ann Wood on the 1st January 1852 by Dr. Leroy. She was born in Toronto, Ontario on the 23rd of April 1832. She died in Niagara Falls, Ontario on the 9th of July 1906. Her parents were William S. Wood and Sophia Shepard from Birmingham. Morton owned a book store in West Philadelphia at 3950 Market St. When they left Philadelphia in 1861 for Canada, he sold the store to his brother Eli Philip. They left because of the "Trent Affair". Morton and Liz (as he called her) already had six children when they moved to Stamford, Ontario, Canada later to move to the Town of Clifton. He purchased the Albion Hotel in 1867 when he was thirty-seven years old. He Semi-retired in 1880 at 50 years of age, he was elected the Mayor of Niagara Falls in 1888 at age 58 and was a life long member of the Baptist Church. Morton and Liz had thirteen children. 1. Philip Morton BUCKLEY was born on 31 March 1853 as a twin, in West Philadelphia, he married Elizabeth Cole on 27 Sept 1876, they had one daughter Jessie M Cook Fischer. He died 1929 2. The other twin brother, William Pitt BUCKLEY was born on 31 March 1853. He married on the 24 April 1878 to Annie Farnham Riggs. They had two children Olive 1905 and William 1882. Olive married Fred Chasey and had 3 children. William became a RCMP officer and had 5 children. 3. Albert E BUCKLEY born on the 24 November 1854 in West Philadelphia. He died on 24 September 1859. 4. Victoria Adilade BUCKLEY was born on the 15 Aug 1856 in West Philadelphia, she married Robert WOOD on the 19 Dec 1900. She died on 21 January 1914. 5. Morton Havelock BUCKLEY was born on the 13 December 1857 in West Philadelphia he married on the 30 Jun 1884 to Melissa Jane BADGER 1862-1939. They had three children Frank James 1890-1899, Earnest 1894-1971 who married Emma Gebhart 1898-1982, and Norman J 1896-1933. He died in 1925. 6. Charles Albert BUCKLEY was born on the 22 October 1859 in West Philadelphia 1861 His first wife was Rose L Branski and they had one child Ethel Rose who married Charles VANDERSLUYS His second wife Mary E. Hamilton 1864-1924 gave him another children, James Owen 1890-1930 who married Madeline Morgan 1886-1966, 7. George Eli BUCKLEY was born on the 1st Sept 1861, He was the first child born in Canada at Stamford, Ontario. He married on 3 June 1884 to Emma ADAMS who was born on the 2 Dec. 1866 and died on the 20 June 1948. She was born in Toronto. Her parents were Thomas Adams and Anna Buckley(nee ALLEN)an |
