Notes for JOSHUA MONROE FRIEND:
Joshua M. Friend, born in 1818, was 22 when he married Sarah Anne Vansickle, 17 in 1840. Josj\hua was a school teacher. Joshua's daughter stated of her father and his brothers, "I don't know where they got their education in their day. They were very intelligent. My father had a library, and people would come to him for legal advice; and, if they had a broken arm or leg, they would come to "Uncle Josh' to set their bones." The wedding of Joshua M. Friend and Sarah Anne Vansickle took place in 1840 at grandfather David Vansickle's farm on Buffalo Run, near Sand Spring. Source - "Indian Blood", Evelyn Guard Olsen, pg. 155.

Joshua M. Friend "went out west for a year to make a home for his bride, Sarah Anne, there, " leaving Sarah at his home. When he came back, however, he entered into a partnership with his brother Jonathan Friend at the Sugar Cove and land on Grimes Point. Source - "Indian Blood", Evelyn Guard Olsen, pg. 158.
