Boozhoo nidji (Greetings friend)
A special person emailed this to me. "A friend is someone who knows the song of your soul and sings it back to you when you've forgotten the words." -- Author Unknown
In second grade my mother told me I was Irish, English, Scotch, French, German and Chippewa Indian, not neccessarily in that order. My gen quest started then - 44 years ago.
I am researching many branches and trying to break through many brick walls. The family surname brick is William FRIEND, originally a long German name. He was the father of Enos FRIEND b.1831 Ohio, died February 19, 1910 at Gheen MN. Enos married Frances THOMAS b.1835 - Ohio and died 1915. Their son Solomon B. FRIEND b.September 19, 1862 in Ohio died June 17, 1939 at Buhl MN. Solomon was married twice. First wife was Nancy (Hannah)ORCOTT. I understand she was scaulded to death. He then married Daisy DULEY b.July 07, 1888 at Cedar Springs MI and died September 14, 1963 at Virginia MN.
I have a very rich Anishnabe (Ojibwe, Chippewa) history and have placed 2 great-grandmothers to the Lac Court Oreilles reservation near Hayward Wisconsin.
My next walls would be both Peter (Pierre) LUMBAR/LAMBERT b1814-1818 who married Sophia CADOTTE b.1828-1833 and died June 11, 1900 at Stone Lake WI. Both were mixed-bloods.
Last, in this brief statement, but certainly not least, the parents of William Holmes born 1828 in Scotland. Came through New York to Chisago County, Minnesota in about 1848 and married Mary O-sah-ga Maingan. Mary's parents on her death certificate read mother Maingans (Little Wolf in Ojibwe) and father Wemetihars. Wemetihars is incorrect as there is no R in Ojibwe. Mary's death certificate had skin color as "copper."
I am always happy to communicate with relatives and even those who aren't. For me each contact brings back flame to the always glowing ember.
Megwetch (Thank you)
