I am researching the Friesen / Von Riesen lineage, first recorded in Kahlteherberg in West Prussia in 1756. The Mennonite family originated in the Netherlands, and spoke "Plautdietch," but not Dutch. Most of the family groups migrated from West Prussia to the Ukraine in South Russia on the Dniepr River around the turn of the 1800s, then to the central plains of North America before the turn of the 1900s. My grandmother's ancestors were Fasts, and shared a similar family history as my grandfather's lineage. I am also researching the Hockett / Hoggett lineage, first known in South Carolina during the 1600s. My grandfather's ancestors came to Kansas in the 1800s. My grandmother's lineage were the Bridwells, first know in Virginia during the 1600s. As noted above, both of my families changed their last names slightly during their migrations. My son is an Oglala Sioux Indian, who was adopted in 1973, and is registered at the Pine Ridge Reservation. He and I are beginning to research his lineage as well. We are interested in finding his birth family, who were living in the Los Angeles area when he was born. |
