Notes for A
NTONIO IANNACONE:
                        SOURCE OF INFORMATION

1) Ratso's Notes.
      a. Antonio (Anthony) - Latin : flourishing. [Anton, Antoine, Antony, Tony]

2) Notes from Harold Gerard Anthony Ianacone.
      a. " My mom was married at 13, my Dad was 25. My mom had a stepfather that beat her so       they lied about her age to get married, so she could leave her stepfathers home. That's how       she moved to Tarrytown, N.Y. where my father was working with his older brother Augustine       who was "head" guard on the Rockefeller Estate in the Bocantico Hills."
      b. " Anthony worked for the Whalen Bros., Grand St., New York City. It was said that they all       thought very highly of "Tony" Ianacone as did everyone who knew him."
      c. " My fathers brother Dominick who remained in Italy had 10 children and used to boast       about it to his neice Irma Minichini living in Pa., until she meantioned, ' your brother Tony's       son has 17!"
      d. " My father was well liked by all who knew him including his employers. After the       depression when my father lost his good job in the foundry, he found employment at Whalen
Bros. Department Store near our home. This was one of the first department store in Brooklyn
to sell furniture etc. and display it in whole room settings. 3 Irish brothers owned it. One of       their names was Robert T. Whalen known by all including the employees as R.T. Well one day
the employees went on strike and my dad's turn came up to 'picket' the place and then the
'picket' marchers wore these 'billboard' signs front & back and my dad was walking up & down
with his when R.T. came up and said : 'Tony, you look half frozen to death, go across the       street to the diner and get yours a hot breakfast and charge it to me.' ' Can't do that R.T.       replied my dad, its my turn to 'picket'. ' Give me the billboard then', said R.T., who then put the
billboard over his camelhaired overcoat and proceeded to 'picket' his own place of business
while my dad had a hot breakfast on the boss."
      e. " Another time, another brother [I've forgotten their names] entered the nearby Barber Shop
to get his hair cut and found my father getting his cut. 'What are you doing Tony, getting your
hair cut on company time?' ' It grew on company time', my father replied.' ' Not all of it!',            replied the boss. ' I'm not getting it all cut off!', replied my dad ending the repartee. [My dad       was know for his sense of humor too.]"
      f. " The eldest brother, [all 3 in fact] use to use my dad to work around their homes knowing       'Tony' was a Jack-of-all-trades, handyman who could also be handy in the garden, etc., so one
day he was asked to do something that needed doing at the eldest brothers home in Long       Island. My father took the subway [5 cents] as far as it would go planning to walk the rest of       the way but he would be late getting to the house so he took a cab to get their on time hoping
the boss would be inside and not notice him arriving by cab, the boss said ' I didn't know I had
an employee who could afford to come to work in a cab, maybe I should fire him and hire       someone who needs a job?' My dad replied, ' Then you'd be losing an employee who is       punctual and when the boss say's, be at my house at this and this time, makes sure he is       even if he has to take a cab!' Needless to say my dad wasn't fired, was reinbursed for the cab       fare and sent back to the subway in a cab paid for by the boss who said, ' So you can be       "punctual" arriving home to your family!' My dad was respectful but not subserviant and stood
up for his rights and was respected in turn by all, including employees."

3) Notes from Lucy Irene Fry.
" Anthony was born in Avellino, Italy to Anthony and Philamena. Anthony came to America at             age 19. He spoke no english. He worked early in his marriage as a gardner for the       Rockerfeller's in Tarrytown, New York. He learned to speak english on his own. Later Anthony
and Elevera moved to Brooklyn. 'Tony' worked for years in a foundry in New Jersey. He died       from a stroke at age 71 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Anthony and Elevera had 7 children:
