Notes for John Crawford: John is listed in the History of Perry Township and the book titled "IF THESE HILLS COULD TALK" THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION WAS TAKEN FROM THE BOOK: John Crawford was born in Ireland in 1766. He and his wife, Mary, rode horseback to get to the ship that brought them to America. It is not known the exact date but he was first settled in Westmoreland County about 1781. About 1806 John came to Perry Township with his wife and two children, Samuel and William. John and Mary had eight children. Mary died rather young and is buried in the Rich Hill Cemetery. John's second wife was Sarah and they had seven children. John and Sarah are buried together at the Crawford Cemetery.
This farm eventually became the property of William Crawford. It was William's will that set aside the 1 1/2 acre of land for the Crawford Cemetery.
John is known as one of the first settlers of this region.
