Notes
In August 1755 (during the French and Indian War) General Johnson at Fort Edward sent an urgent appeal for troops to be sent without delay. Between the 1st and 17th of Sept., 73 men were enrolled in the company of Capt. Eldad Lewis of Stoughton; most of them were from the Waterbury, CT area. Among them were David Hungerford who enlisted 7 Sep 1755 and was discharged 24 Nov. 1755. (He had removed from East Haddam about 1747 and was probably living in that part of ancient Waterbury now called Woodbury or in Westbury). David Hungerford's name again appears in the muster roll of the Second Regiment in Capt. Eldad Lewis Company, March 27th to Nov. 16th 1758, and it is marked "died July 22" An old autograph record of death made by Timothy Judd of Westbury (Watertown) reads "July 22, 1758, died in the camp at Lake George, Mr. David Hungerford."
